Faulty Oculus Rift sensor?

Hi

I bought the Oculus Rift 2 month ago and it looks like one of the sensors has gone that came with the touch controllers. :( I've reformated my pc, update my usb drivers etc... windows is saying 'the last usb device you connected has malfunctioned' its not detecting in any of my usb ports so it must be gone. Is it a nightmare to get it replaced? I bought from another retailer and they only have 30 days return so it would mean having to get in touch with Oculus. I've just ordered a new one from there store as I can't bare the hassle of returning and waiting after what I've heard about them but if its not too much hassle then I'll return the faulty one and use all 3...

Also... I'm thinking of ordering the Inatek card to keep my vr stuff isolated from the other usb ports, are they worth getting?

Thanks
Lee

Reports regarding Oculus support are massively varied, but I had to RMA my Rift (the widely reported right side audio dying issue), and had zero hassle doing so. My Rift originally came from Oculus though, not a store.

I have a 4 port Inatek card, but don't expect to plug every sensor plus your Rift into it. It's the number of controllers on the card that count, and the one I have can handle 2 Rift sensors (or the Rift itself + one other sensor). More than that and things fall over. It's enough to take some of the burden away from the MB ports though.

I just got my Rift+Touch bundle. It seems like one of the sensors is dead. It doesn't appear in device manager no matter where I plug it in (USB 2.0 or 3.0) and it's not detected in the Rift setup. The other sensor and headset work in any of my USB ports and correctly identify as USB 3.0 during Rift setup.

I had to RMA a sensor and it took ages to sort out...raise a ticket and insist straight away on RMA, it took me weeks to get them to that point. I also made the mistake of sending my Rift box back (misunderstanding with support)...Only by escalating to a manager did I manage to get another empty box sent back to me (not mine but it'll do for storage. DON'T SEND YOUR BOX TO THEM! lol

Good luck!

If you're within the UK they can shove that 30 day limit. The company you bought from need to pay for/arrange a courier or refund you the costs of you getting the item back to them, and they need to either fix your faulty set or give you a new one.

Brief summary of my problem.
  • MSI Z77A-GD65 mobo
  • My USB 3 controller is Intel, with 2 rear ports and a midboard connector which 2 front ports are connected to
  • The Oculus compatibility tool doesn't bring up any problems with any of my USB controllers (I believe it's just the one Intel)
  • One sensor works fine in any of my 4 USB 3 ports - The duff sensor doesn't work in any port, not even USB 2
  • There is no unknown device for it in device manager when it's plugged in
  • The only hint of life is the white light does come on if you plug it in while the setup is running
My mate is bringing his laptop over tonight so I can try it on another system.

I've got my new sensor that I ordered and my rift is working again. I'm gonna get onto Amazon next week about replacing the faulty one as I'd like a 3 sensor setup. I'm gonna leave the Inatek card for now. I would have liked all 3 sensors and the headset usb plugged into the Inatek card but if you cant do that then I may as well just use the usb ports I've got. Plus I'm not even sure I've got a spare slot for it to go into, I think I'd have to take my soundcard out.

On another note... has anyone with a rift noticed how the godrays/smearing when you move your head slightly has got worse after a while of using it? For the first month there were no godrays/smearing at all and then this last month or so its definitely more noticable. Its much more noticeable on the oculus menus than before and I'm wondering if its got worse after an update? The godrays I can live with but the smearing is the worst. Those circles down either side on the system screen smear about when I move my head and it just seems washed out. Once I'm in a game I don't really notice it much its just on menus etc...
