Bought a Philips Blu-Ray player awhile ago and only noticed recently a problem with the display screen when there wasn't a disk in. Rather than it displaying Home, it was saying Hon7e. So I got in touch with their technical support who after a few suggestions from their end (I had done a firmware update before contacting them in the first place) decide the best course of action was to send it to their repair centre. So sent it off to them and got a phone call yesterday informing me that the "problem" was not a problem and it was perfectly normal for the display screen to be like that (something to do with the screen only being able to display 7 segments or something:confused:) and therefore they would just send it back to me. Now at the time I just accepted it but having shown other people the photos of the problem, they all think that the player is faulty so I'm after people's opinions on whether they would just accept it displaying as it does or get Philips to do something about it.

When I'm playing Blu-Rays or DVDs the display itself is fine, just the 'Home' screen that has the problem.

edit: All sorted now. Philips just been tight wads and cutting costs :(

Surely it is just using what limited ability it has to say "HOME". E.g. the n and the 7 makes an M? The screen is 7 cell like what you get on a calculator, great for numbers but difficult to display letters.

Maybe I'm just been fussy. Looking at it I can see how it does sort of say Home if you look closely but its just something I'll have to live with I guess. It wasn't a particularly expensive player so that may also be a reason, I just think it looks a bit silly.

LOL. It's not faulty, they just used a 7 segment display to save money.

If you don't like it I'm sure we can recommend you a £500 Denon with a less cheap display.

Here's a Pro tip : Don't lecture a 10+ year member with rolleyes after asking for an opinion.

Edit : plus the aforementioned previous reply wasn't there when I composed the post.

There's no need to be all high and mighty just because of how long you've been here or how many posts you have. Just because you've been here longer than someone else, doesn't mean your opinion is more right than from someone else. I've accepted its to keep costs down yet you still decided to have a go at me.

Also I sent those photos to their tech support before they said to send it to their repair centre so they must have thought it was fault too and they work for the company.

I'm not being high and mighty - I was giving you a tip on forum etiquette.

My point still stands that your second post was not there when I clicked reply therefore I was not "having a go" either.

Right, I'm off to the pub.
