Strange problem. XP boots to user screen but as soon as I move the mouse the PC reboots, probably happens 80% of the time but if I get into windows it happens eventually. I did a long overdue clean install and after all the windows files had been copied accross I get a blue screen windows STOP error, USB does get mentioned on there. This is an 18 month old PC. I dont have a mouse to hand to try so could this be simply the mouse gone or does it sound more like a USB hub problem?

Yes odd that.Make a note of stop error and check here http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.php
nice troubleshooting hangs here

but firstly nip out and buy a cheap ps2 style mouse and keyboard. They`re essential for troubleshooting really.Think i`m unlucky but those wireless ones always end up acting strange at some point for me so back to ol trusty wired ones.Certain food retailers sell em late at night locally if you`re stuck.

This has happened to me with a usb modem before, it caused the pc to switch off randomly, so its certainly possible that its the mouse.
Many usb mice come with a ps2 adaptor, try that if you have one.

Thanks guys :) Just installed windows with an old PS2 mouse and all seems well. I will get up and running then start swapping stuff about. Just hope its the mouse and nothing on the mobo.
