Normally I'd say it has to be made with spirits (and adding vodka for a turbo diesel doesn't count), frequently made with a cocktail shaker and served in a cocktail or highball glass.

Diesel, snakebite and black, purple nasty - all the same thing just different names.

A good mojito is nice but takes an age if it is made properly and a moscow mule isn't too bad either. I don't tend to drink too many cocktails as a general rule on a night out unless I'm bored and experimenting.
 
So a pint of lager with a sambuca shot in doesn't count either?

Whatever it's classified as, it gets you completely ****ed.
 
Snakebite is certainly not a cocktail.

I'm a fan of:

Honeyberry Sour
French Martini
Dark and Stormy
Gin Bramble
Mai Tai

amongst many others.... Cocktails = win.
 
Student cocktail:

Incredible Hulk = WKD Blue + Reef Orange + a double shot of vodka.

Drink it down in one from pint glass for best results. (left hand only ladies).

Indeed not a cocktail either. If your gonna mess around with sambuca and want to get hammered light it, do a gas chamber and inhale the fumes through a straw. Goes straight to your head. :p

I've heard far too many tales, of stuff/people getting burned, to do such things :p

Yep, margarita - one recipe here.

You could also mention the Cheeky Vimto for Ben M, bottle of blue wicked in a pint glass, add a shot of port and down it. I've always added the lager and coke together then knocked the shot of Amaretto in for the Dr Pepper, makes it fizz up and you more likely to down it.

In my experience, the moment you work in a cocktail bar, the moment you stop drinking cocktails, and just drink beer instead. Then you leave the cocktail bar and get back into drinking them again :p
 
Muay Thai is my favourite, I also like the Grasshopper.

There is a bar in my town that used to do by far the best Muay Thai I've ever had. It had 3 different kinds of dark rum in, and was very tasty. The bar changed hands, and since does ghetto cocktails totally unworthy of their 5 quid price tag.
 
Margs
Gin+cointreau+orange juice+vermouth+grenadine (Luigi) - this is great with decent grenadine.
Drambuie + bitters + tonic is simple and very nice.
