Favourite day of the football calendar

There is money in all sorts of things. There is money in pre season friendlies in Asia. The thing is none of them are things the fans really care about.

You mention the Club World Cup and I hadn't even noticed it had been renamed from the Club World Championship and it turns out that happened in 2006 - nearly 20 years ago. Money has had a hugely detrimental impact on so much of the game. The whole thing is very sad in so many ways.

Asian preseason tours are to give fans in those countries the opportunity to see the clubs they support, so yeah the fans do care about those.

No, Asian preseason tours are for clubs to make money. The clubs don't give a XXXX about fans in Asia. They care about "commercial opportunities" in Asia. If they were not making stacks of cash they wouldn't go.

I think both things can be true. It provides an opportunity to fans overseas and earns clubs money.

In response to your earlier reply to re what fans care about, while I certainly agree that fans care more about the FA Cup than what clubs do, I do think that is changing too. I'm 38 and remember watching (and looking forward to) the 5+ hour build-up to the FA Cup final, now I don't make any effort to watch it unless Liverpool are in it. While I always want Liverpool to win, it hasn't bothered me that much that we've gone out because I think it's going to help us in respect to our chances in the League (and CL).

The 2 go hand in hand don't they, besides the point i replied to was that fans don't give a **** about Asian preseason tours, when clearly they do.

Do they? I don't think any of the fans care apart from the small number in the stadium.

Just taking Man Utd as an example. They don't feature any of these pre season "tournament" wins on their website. There is no clamour from fans to include them.

Used to look forward to FA cup semi's, you know when the winners got a trip to Wembley, seems a lot less magical now.

I'm actually on the fence on that. The Wembley semi finals were a fairly recent innovation. I actually think in a lot of ways they undermined the magic of the final itself.

I guess it depends on the club. I'd imagine Coventry fans were very happy with their semi being at Wembley.

But answering the question in the OP, the opening day of the season. After a couple of months of either no football or rubbish football, I always look forward to the League restarting.

And I'm shocked nobody (well @Bigpig) hasn't said the opening of the transfer window(s).
