Favourite 'day out'.

Hello!

It is my girlfriends' 22nd birthday next week, and I want to take her to do something fun for a day, maybe an overnight stay if it is required.

I am based in Bristol and have my own car so can go pretty much anywhere, obviously nearer is easier, but I am willing to travel!

Where are your favorite days out, OcUK? If you could give me a brief overview why it is so good, and why it is worth me taking her there, that would be great.

Example;

Place: Alton Towers
Why it's good: Fun, relatively cheap, enough to keep you occupied for a day.
Why it's not so good: Half term so full of kids, may not like rides, etc.

I'm not going to structure my post like the example, since that's a little anal, but for a single day out I'd probably head to london. Also depends on budget.

Drive to Bath, spend the night in an upmarket B&B, and visit the historic sites during the day.

Why it's good: it's not Bristol.
Why it's not so good: your gf might not be vaguely interested in historic sites.

As already noted, depends on you and your gf's likes and dislikes.

I took my ex to the lake district and organised a horse riding session for us both as we both like walking in the outdoors, love the countryside and horse riding was something she wouldn't get to experience or think to do in New York.

Downside could be the weather, cost as the lake district tends to be quite expensive and walking if neither of you like that.

As someone else mentioned a night out in London can also be good if you don't live there but again can be quite expensive.

Weekend in New York. 5 hour flight so not so bad for the weekend but again you would need to pay for a hotel and food / entertainment.

Some of the popular holiday sites do last minute deals.

Trip to Bangkok for shopping is also good. She will love the shopping and some airlines do cheap flights off season of around GBP350 each. Hotels can be found which are very cheap and she would probabily love the shopping (my wife does). Downside is the 12 hour flight :eek:

. More than a weekend activity from the UK.

Amsterdam is also a reasonible option.

Closer to you.......

Outward bound centre do a day of muddy fun.

Cornwall for the beaches, clubs, B&B for the night.
