Favourite Guitar Solo

, I like metal and progressive metal (amongst others), my issue is that there are numerous tracks that I listen to and love, where you couldn't actually point out where the "solo" begins, starts or ends, or it gets a bit silly to point out that there are 20 different "solos" in the track.

Hush

ok... I listen to and play various types of Metal, and I can tell when the majority of solos start and end, seems like its your problem not ours.

Bands themselves define them as solos.

What are these? (see video) lead parts? Yes, but they're also classed as guitar solos. You are complicating something very simple for the sake of an argument, its boring.

By no means the most technical, but Slashes solo (1st) from GnRs version of Knockin' on Heavens door is possibly my favourite, or the first from November rain.

The tone on both of those solos sound out of this world.

all this talk of Slash leavin a bad taste in my mouth :)

Suiprised no one mentioned Zakk Wylde so far, heres one of my faves solos for Sold My Soul

And just for Waffle/Spoffle because it is a "solo" guitarist heres Tools - Lateralus on acoustic simply because its awesome :)

Arena - The Visitor. Just gets the spine tingling.
Pendragon - Masters Of Illusion. This one really gets you when it kicks in at about halfway. Most of Nick Barratt's solos are pretty good, TBH.
Mostly Autumn - The Night Sky. The band is a bit pretentious but once Joshie gets in the zone he's about as close as you can get to being Gilmour as, erm, Gilmour himself.
Marillion - Neverland. Best track on probably their last decent album before they started making elevator muzak.

GnR - November Rain/Sweet Child/Estranged
Bon Jovi - Dry County (guy above who posted this, great call, love this solo and it still sends shivers down my spine)
Kansas - Carry On Wayward Son
Skid Row - Wasted Time, though they have some other epic solos
Bullet For My Valentine - Tears Don't Fall

I have so many I love through many different genre's, and agree with the comments about them not needing to be the most technical, they just have to fit and feel right with the song. For example there's nothing amazing about the two solo's Slash put into the GnR cover of Heavens door, but man they fir the song like a glove.
