4.November Rain by GnR

Edit- Oh god I forgot comfortably numb :(

Happened to be watching the nme channel today while waiting the final few mins for washing machine to finish and saw a live version of Knocking on heavens door, after getting past the whole Axl in hotpants thing, Slash's solo's were just freaking amazing.

You see the whole guitar hero thing and forget the old days and forget just how much of a legend he was.

November Rain is very good aswell but the solo's in Knocking were really superb, I can play, not great, but ok but you see the speed he moves his hands/fingers at, damn, I just don't have that speed/dexterity :(

Motorcycle Emptiness and You Love Us by Manic Street Preachers

You sir are a true legend i'd state that archives of pain is the best solo purely for duration...

My top 5

1. Love is the law - Seahorses (John Squire)
2. I am the resurrection - Stone Roses
3. Stockholm Syndrome - Muse
4. Thoughts of a dying athiest - Muse
5. Animal Nitrate - Suede

I know i've missed countless b- sides from Pink Floyd archives and Led Zeppelin albums, the songs above got me to want to play the guitar and i love them for that.

Yes! It amazes me how much stick he gets from the so called pro-bedroom-guitarists who think they know best.

There is no better riff and solo writer than Slash when it came to dove tailing to rock songs. His riffs and solo's where so defined by their melodies and themes that it sounds almost lyrical. Thats whats so amazing about November Rain especially, each of the solo's is almost like a verse in the song that tells the story, incredible!

Listen to this, dont cry demo version. I prefer this over the original as its more raw and defined than the original.

Once a guitarist has reached a certain skill level they owe it to themselves to learn the solos to knocking on heavens door, sweet child of mine and november rain. Three absolutely perfect solos. I'm very close to knowing all of sweet child and KOHD :)

If anyone questions Slash's technical ability go listen to the solo of Paradise City.

A slightly eclectic mix from me:

Kenickie - Punka (yes really!)
Manics - Australia (Everything Must Go Album Version

Oooooh, you could be me from 14 years go!

Lets see, a couple that haven't been mentioned yet

Metallica - Fade to Black
Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way (makes me want to cry sometimes)

Slash was the only decent thing in GnR.

Top Gun anthem - Steve Stevens
Hysteria- Muse.
Word up- Gun
Famous last words- My Chemical Romance.

First songs that came to mind that had guitar solos that i liked, amazingly, there are all incredibly short, no more than a quick burst in fact.
