Fawlty Towers to return

Yeeeeee it was...... alright..........

But heard on the radio it was the best UK sitcom of all time , I mean it didn't even have that many episodes.
It was of its time. There were a lot of British comedies back then that were very very good, but they wouldn't get made today.
They might call this one Fawlty Towers, but it won't be.

A censored Mr Fawlty wont be the same character.

The same as if you brought back Mr Rigsby from rising damp and made him PC

I'd love to see this, but only if Cleese is given creative freedom, I just don't see how that's going to happen to todays PC / woke media climate. :)

Will almost certainly be rubbish. Some things are a product of their time and work in that time and can even be enjoyed by new audiences in modern times but I can't think of any (I'm sure there are a few) comedies that have come back and been as good.

It will either be dropped for being too un-PC or it will be trying to lampoon PC culture and just be a bit ****.

Much like with Frasier I feel the ensemble cast is what made it, bringing them back many years later with just the 'main' actor feels like a difficult proposition to succeed with

Can't see this being any good, regardless if it's decent or not it will always be compared to the first outing and be looked at as far inferior.

Yeah I agree.

Red Dwarf is an example that still has the original cast, or at least mostly. Series 3-6 were the best in its original series 1-8 run, but this is the reason why it still does relatively well in the newer series 30-35 years on. It's now on series 13.

I loved the original but can't see how this can be funny in today's woke society. But I will keep an open mind.

Flowery Tw@ts

Epic fail on what would have been a great thread title.

Also, much like other remakes, reboots etc - this will no doubt be pants.

I'm very surprised that Cleese himself is creating this as I can't help but see it as a Lose/Lose for everyone involved. I mean I think there would be a small market for those who liked the original and want more of the same only 40 years later, but outside of that small group I just don't see much of a wider market in which to make money from this. I think Cleese might just be trying to prove a point, irrespective of monetary issues, and he's found a company willing to fund this vanity project.

Of course I could be completely wrong.
