Fear in game test.

I ran it without vsync on and when the barrel was about to blow it was on 180 fps then it shot right down to 20 to 30 this is not right, is a 180 fps good for my card without vsync on and on 1600x1200?

FEAR was known for stuttering issues (If I recall correct) so that FPS hitch was probably just a stutter which took your FPS right down momentarily.

Then again if your FPS went down and stayed low for a while then I'm probably wrong.

Very much driver dependent. I bought my 4870 512 when we had the 8.10 or 8.11 and it ran Fear1 smooth as silk. Much smoother than previous card, the 8800gtx. Have used the 9+ series drivers with my X2 and seem to recall it was good performance but not as good. Whether its the change of 1gpu to using 2 I do not know.

When i first started overclocking, the FEAR benchmark was one that I used. I went from an athlon 64 3000 1.8ghz to 2.2ghz then an athlon 4000 2.4 to 3.0ghz then an athlon x2 2.0ghz to 2.6ghz and it never made any difference to FEAR benchmark. On my current setup of E8500 4GHz 8gig RAM and 4850 512mb at 1680x1050 my max FPS is about 140 (i think, not got it installed just now) but my lowest IE the explosion was about 35-40. Even so, I can play the game start to finish with v-sync on and get 60fps full stop.

well just ran the test with everything maxed out , physics and effects on max to. 4 aa , 16 af @ 1680x1050

Min: 58 fps
Average: 124 fps
Maximum: 267 fps

id dips to 58 fps in the room with the exploding barrels elsewhere evrytime over 120~ 200 and above.

note i was using 4870 @ stock speeds.

try using latest patch on it i think its 1.8 or 1.08 .

If I get time I may reinstall Fear1 and run the test. Can't really remember what I got with my current ati cards. I think the max I got was around 300 ish.

Just installed and ran test - (X2 3800+, 2gb, 8800GT in 1440x900 res, max settings)
