Hey all.

For the last 5 years I have been wanting to get my own transport, mainly a bike, but funding was never there.

Now I have the money to do it! (yay) but I have no road experience and at 27 years young I am much more concious of the dangers. I feel I can overcome them but not without a fight winthin myslef.

I live in Milton Keynes, the place with the roundabouts and USA style crossroads which is all great in a car. What I dont see is many motorbikes (apart from the weekend sports bikes) and with the way people drive in MK I feel is adding to my still putting of getting my bike.

£1500 fully comp for a 10 year old 3 cylinder corsa... no chance.. cars = no!

£400 fully comp for a 600cc 6 year old bandit... yes please!

I think what I am getting at is the fact that people drive like idiots in MK, its mostly dual carriageways and with the roundabouts people fly over them. Rush hour is horrid in a car and I dread to think what its like on a bike.

Someone slap me or tell me you have ridden in MK and what it was like for you as a rider...please!

I am booking my theory on monday, then ringing the school to look at getting my CBT done.

By mid may I should get to about £2000 for a bike and insurance (Tests and gear are subsided already.

Ps: I have a bad habit of Non coherent rants. :D

I ride in MK a lot .. Great place to ride and practice my lines through roundabouts .. Roads are in good condition (mostly) and never had any issues there on the bike or car .

Look at the Hornet over tha Bandit . Faster lighter more power and better built .

I live near MK, and lived there for quite a few years, and was there last Thursday. Once you're used to it they are just roads with people, including idiots, using them, as all roads are.

Get sorted and you'll be as fine as any other rider. Just remember to assume all car drivers are trying to kill you. You HAVE to think for every car driver as well, not that you have to for everyone but you never know when the 'tard who's not thinking is going to show up.

You'll love riding a bike once you get sorted and wonder why you were overly worried.

Yeah I should stop being a wimp.

The instructor will teach me how to tackle riding in MK.

Is the Hornet not a bit too much for a beginner with no road experience? (not even car experience)

I was terrified the first time I ever drove on the road as it was rush hour and in the middle of Birmingham which didn't help. I didn't have any road experience, but the instructors tell you what to do so it isn't that bad.

Bandit is an ok bike .. but its heavy ... prone to rust and is looking its age . The Hornet is not some rocketship but more from what you would expect from a naked 600 .. Its about 10-15 bhp more and 30ish kilos lighter . At the end of the day it only goes as fast as you make it .. But imho its a better bike than the Bandit

600cc is 600cc regardless os what bike it is - the right hand is what controls it and it will be the thing that controls how long you have your license!

Milton Keynes is awesome! Been round there once and i never once had to stop! It's full of roundabouts so is a bikers wet dream! lol

As for the looks, I don't think there's anything wrong with the Bandit. If you want a slightly sportier Bandit then there's the GSX650F, which I have. It's really quite fun.

At speed, you don't notice the weight. If anything, the weight adds to the smoothness of the ride. I do quite a bit of dual carriageway riding on my commute, but if I had to do more town riding then I'd consider something lighter.

Great roads in mk, i have owned a bandit and hornet, the bandit is the quicker of the two. Both are good bikes although the bandit is getting a little outdated now.
Have you ever thought of a supermoto, They are quick very light and got to be the most fun bikes out there :)

An SM, hmmm.

I did not think about that. I guess I will just have to try all the different bike styles. (not cruisers though:p )
