Feasible for new gaming build NO optical drive?

no optical drive for 3 years. Needed one once to install some strange drivers so used GFs networked PC.

If you have a non-midget case then you tend to have a huge surplus of space and bays.

£15 for an all singing and dancing DVD job or £50 for a blu ray one

I find having yet another gadget dangling about in the form of an external drive more annoying than having an internal drive.

Yeah i havent had an optical drive for a good 10 years or so either, always had a laptop with one up to now though so i just shared that if i needed to load a disk. Even before USB drives were big enough to be useful i just kept a windows install on a spare drive as it was much faster installing from that anyway.

I just bought a new build in February and put one in - it was only £18 and whilst admittedly I've only used it once or twice, occasionally you can get a game that's been out for a while cheaper on disc from Amazon than you can from Steam or the other download sites so it's nice to have the option. I still burn the occasional hardcore/rave CD for the car or for friends. Unless you think it looks bad on your case you might as well have the option...

Have a USB Bluray burner but tbh never really use that as external HDD's are so cheap for backups.

Most new laptops won't have them now as everything is digital download / streaming.
