Does anyone here look forward to games being released during the summer. For those of us still at school, it's nice to have some games to look forward to for the summer holidays. Especially after working like hell for exams.

UT2007... moved. PREY... moved. STALKER... moved. FAR CRY EXPANSION... moved.

I've had enough of this crap. All those titles were origionally scheduled for release within the next few months; now we have to wait until September at the earliest!

Are there any good games being released this summer?? I'm preying that the HL2 add-on doesn't get delayed!

To top it all off, I bought C&C First Decade thinking we could have a load of classic battles over LAN. It's a typical ****ty EA job. The only game I've got working over the network is Generals. Pathetic.

CRYSIS looks absolutely incredible, but I really doubt my crappy X1900XT will be able to render it at that speed.

Well UT2007 I'd always have thought would come out closer to 2007, or even in 2007, so I've not got my hopes on it coming out this side of autumn anyway.

Prey and Stalker, they're always being delayed, both have been here and there for the last half a decade, so no suprises there really.

HL2 Episode One has pretty much been set in stone now, so nothing should delay that. Though I don't feel that's it's going to be anything new, or that enjoyable, and far too short for some peoples liking, so I'm hoping to be suprised with that.

Other than that, I've not seen anything that gets me excited still. Neither Stalker or Prey have me wanting to go out and buy them on the day of release yet.

Did the publishers actually give definate release dates and then change them or are you going by what dates were listed in stores?

Personally I'd prefer to wait for a polished product rather than buy something that was rushed out and clearly not finished....

Looking at my system spec; do you reckon it will handle Crysis and UT2007 - Or will I need a DX10+Vista upgrade?

I wonder if the Far Cry expansion will be out shortly?

Cheers

Mate, about Crysis, ive got good news :p ! You know all the screenies and videos, they were run at full settings, smoothly on an X1900!!!! That should have made your day :D Anyway, i'm quite sure that Prey was confirmed July and tehre are a few other games to name a few. Hitman blood moeny, Sin episode 1, HL2 Ep 1, Resi 4, DMC 3, Rise and Fall, and thats all I can think of :D Anyway, all the good games come out around September, they always do. But there are still loadsa games coming out in the next 2-3 months.

EDIT- Also, I think the Far Cry expansion pack was canned, there was no news about it

Havn't the foggiest mate. It should run the game fine I'd have thought on medium, but with any new game that's going to demand the latest graphics card to make it look the nicest, you're going to have to compromise on some image qualities to get the best frame rates, or live with horrid frame rates.

I've always found the Unreal Engines run things a lot nicer than others, and the FarCry engine was quite horrid and rather hungry for power, so at a guess, you'll find UT2007 to run quicker, though they're going to be two different kinds of environments to render really, extreme foliage / landscapes in Crysis, more urban/sharper environments generally in UT.

Tell me about it. UT 2004 runs incredibly on a PCI Radeon 9000! I played it in between my 7800GTX and X1900XT upgrade.

That would make my day, but I'd need to hear it from someone else too. Or have evidence :)

I never played Quake IV when released. Would it be worth picking up cheaply or are the graphics not really that good? I just want a damn game that will blow me away and put my X1900XT to the test.

tbh theres been very few games that I've not thought (once finished) AND THEN????
Q4 was a prime example! too short, just like HL2, Fear wasn't too bad but most games now seem to be way too short for my liking.

I'd much rather they took their time, than release a hugely buggy game that they then have to keep releasing patch after patch to sort personally.
And I'm guessing they're not delaying them because they don't feel like making any money right now.

tbh, they seem to be buggy anyway,
look at CS:S

I touched on this in this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17570605

Basically games are always released with bugs, they are so complex now that they only way they can all be identified is with testing on a massive scale (i.e. retail release).

Anyway, why worry about being "let down", there will probably be plenty of good titles released this year. To be honest if no more games were released for the whole of 2006 it wouldn't bother me because I've got plenty of old ones I'd like to try. Maybe some of the delays will mean you get something to play NEXT summer!

Look at Prey, that's not supposed to be a summer 2006 release anyway, try more like summer 1998.

It's also true that summer is very rarely a good time for games. People are traditionally on holiday or engaging in outdoor pursuits. Holiday season (leadup to Thanksgiving onwards) is much better, I mean look at last year, we had the likes of FEAR, Quake4, Serious Sam 2, CoD 2 etc all coming out within weeks of each other, and that's just the FPS genre.

POV bug and a defuse kit being dropped on the bomb prevents you from defusing are two.

i thought they fixed the 2nd one

and to be fair like most people i got css free with half life 2 so it would be rather ungrateful to complain about a free game, right?

UT2007 has been slated as a September or very late 2006 release for some time now, i think that ANYONE that truely believed the game would be coming out late 2005 or early 2006 was just being plain silly...
as already said though, Prey and STALKER have been constantly delayed for sooo long now it's just becoming another "oh well... something else will tied me over until then"... i've lost all interest in both titles now tbh anyway.
wasn't aware the FarCry expansion had been delayed, although thats another case of when its out i'll pick it up... i'm not going to cry over it.

Oblivion was the same case, delays delays delays... its out now and not everyone is happy with it... many people say its just morrowind with better graphics... :-/

I've always found the Unreal Engines run things a lot nicer than others,
as have i, but a bit of info for you here... from IGN.com about the UT2007 press demo back in march

Since the game isn't optimized yet, they needed quite a beast to run it, and nVidia stepped in with a quad SLI rig. That means four video cards running in one system. Yowza.

the irony of that artical, and that press release tbh is that they talk about new vehicals...
Paladin (tank with sheild)
SMPA (artillary)
Cicada (raptor meets manta but with homing missiles)
which of course, are in UT2004 if you've downloaded the official bonus pack (ECE or the XP, i can't remember which one) with the extra maps and vehicals... so nothing new at all tbh

why?
the group making it before valve stole it where doing a better job tbh
also theres the whole hitboxes issue, I've seen people (and vids) of people shooting targets that they are thouching (ie pushed up against) in the head, and missing (because of the bug tbh, you can see it should have hit), its more of an issue in CS:S than other games, most games, you shoot someone and they stay shot, CS:S has the whole rates crap so some rates mess the game up and make it imposable to hit you or for you to hit depending.

I played it on a GF2 on medium/full at 1024 with UT2003 at ~50 fps. (1.2 athlon :P)

They seem to get really good performance out of shocking stuff.
