Fed up with ISP service? Sign here.

I'd probably go with LLU or an Entanet reseller if LLU isn't available. I personally wouldn't mind paying >£20 a month for a good service.

Why do BT have to charge so much for their main (core?) lines? Surely if they charged a reasonable rate, broadband would be cheap, and restrictions would not be needed, ISP's would be more profitable and reliable.

Root of the problem (as I see it) is BT or lack of alternative in the UK.

Strangely, I have no problems with AOL's service. I'm not fussy, though - I'm content to get 1Mb on my allegedly 2Mb line, because I expect an ISP to deceive its customers about speeds and because I recall when your choices were 300/300 or 1200/75. That's bits, not kilobits. AOL also cap and deceive their customers about that too - the usual limited unlimited thing. Even better - they refuse to tell their customers what the cap is.

Just expect ISPs to deceive you and it comes as much less of a shock when they do.

I have both a BT Business line and a bethere 8meg line. Both are pretty good, but bethere's customer service is excellent and at £14 a month for uncapped service i'm laughing.BT.... well, considering I have paid them £500 since Novemeber for their services, phone and broadband, customer support is a complete runnaround and i'm not very impressed.

So, considering BT invest the minimum in maintaining the network without upgrades I'm guessing their main bill is electricity and salaries? £5 per month margin for bt on 8m connections is more than acceptable in my eyes so £10 is a joke.

Yes, but the BT you pay for broadband isn't the one which maintains the network, thats BT wholesale. They're separate companies essentially and ofcom ensures that BT the ISP get charged the same as Tiscali or anyone else by BT Wholesale, confusing but the way it is...

Think I am going to have to shell out £70 early-contract-leaving fee as I'm fed up of my new ISP already. Only been with it a week and I get a crap 50KB/sec off Usenet when previously I used to have 850KB/sec from my previous ISP (but they were naughty with their billing so I left). Looks like a switch to Be* for me.

No 14 day get out of jail free with them?

Well the T&C say there is a 7-day cooling off from date of order. It took 8 days for me to be activated. Hmm, I wonder if I ring them up and ask them there might be something I've missed.

Most fibre so far in other countries exists due to government subsidies. As we have concluded it just isn't profitable to provide unlimited connections with the current infastructure. So get lobbying your MP. the prblem is that the Gove already decided it should be privitised. Openrach own the copper, BTW are equivilent to Tiscali LLU for example and own the exchnage equipment and the backhaul , BT are the same as a normal ISP. They have all been split up to make it private, the problem is that providing high speed Internet is going to be more profitable in certain areas than others. More dense areas would be more profitable and with it being very expensive to lay fibre we end up in the situation we are in now. if Openreach/ BTW put in fibre they would have to allow = access to ISPs, regulations need to be set up to make it fair. or look at cable, they never managed to cover even 50% of the UK due to cost.

All about mony...

Simple: remember the old rule:

Fast, cheap, good - pick any two
.

(Zen customer: relatively expensive, but fast and flawless service - the two I chose.)

Exactly why I went with Zen. No problems at all with them. As far as ISPs go, you generally get what you pay for.

I agree with Tiscali being poor at times but a quick call to their customer service and simply ask. "Please can you reset my line" cures slow connection on the line. I

I'm with pipex, who are now owned by Tiscali. Recently my router has been syncing at 1000 kbps instead of 4000kbps. Tried the usual reset router, different filters, testing at master socket etc etc but still the same.

Sent them a few emails, as i havent had the time to phone them (last time i did the wait queue was insane), but no reply yet.

Think a line reset would cure the low sync speed?

Back on topic.. If i wasn't locked into another 6/7 months then i'd be to zen in a flash :p

No I'm not signing it.

As has been said before on here, it is customers with champagne tastes and beer money with regards to the internet.

Exactly, I would gladly pay top money for a super fast non throttled connection. But the majority of people moan when they cant get 16mb on adsl2 for their 10quid a month bunch of steengy gits!
