Fedora 10

Long time user of ubuntu here.. very happy with it but decided to try fedora 10 just in case im missing out on something. Cant get it to boot properly from the live cd, get initial menu and bums out shortly after loading X. Cant be bothered to get it working so ill stick with ubuntu for now.

EDIT - is this prerelease software? i just got what looked like the latest release from the website

Just a quick update with Fedora and hopefully my experience may help those that are havng trouble installing. My linux test box is a bog standard machine but has an nForce 610/GeForce Go 7050 board, it was also set up for ACHI. I disabled that set it back to plain 'ole fashioned SATA, disabled the onboard graphics and installed a 8600 GS I had lying around.

Popped in the Fedora disk (full install DVD) and bang, she fired up with no messing at all. Fedora 10 is looking rather nice at the moment and creams Ubuntu on performance. It is more difficult to get the proper nVidia drivers installed than Ubuntu and I can't get flash to work yet but we shall see. :)

If you got the flash installer thing from adobe.com you need to manually go into terminal, su root and then "yum install flash-player" (or summit like that - on windows at work atm)

Fedora 7 was decent but a bit fiddly, 8 was awesome and I found it just as stable as CentOS. 9 for me had too many broken apps and deps, though I did only try it fairly early. I stuck with 8 (and the kids have it on their Aspire One netbook) and it's probably the best Fedora for some time :D I'll be giving 10 a spin though, it'd be rude not to ;)

Had a quick go at installing it last night, X wouldn't start and it dumped me to a terminal - something about the default pointer device I think. It's a Logitech MX1000 that works fine in Fedora 8, thought we had progressed past stuff like this :(.

Well after having to change computer i thought i'd give this another go and i got it to install no problems what so ever.
I have to say though its nowt special. I still prefer Ubuntu by far.

Trying this now - was going fine until I downloaded the latest updates, which nicely broke the package manager - not too user friendly! Apart from this, i quite like it, although need to head of to bed before i get too immersed!

Installed this the other day and went to use yum to install some packages and received an error. Turned out the default install had set the permissions wrong on one of yum's key files (from memory I think it was the cache). How the chuff did someone miss that?!
