In the past 6 months I've attended 4 wrong shifts.

In the first month, I was under assumption my times never changed. A few weeks later someone stole my rota it mysteriously went missing. I had an informal warning. Everything went fine and dandy for the past 5 months until last week.

I had the flu and I read my rota wrong, what were the chances of 3rd of Feb and 3rd of March being on a Saturday? :o

I had informal action taken again and I justified my reasoning fully and apologised relentlessly. I was told of the consequences if it happened again and I full agreed.

Today, I searched my whole room and I couldn't find my rota. I was almost certain that I was on 9-6 shift as opposed to 11-8. I went in and my supervisor told me come back on my right shift (11-8).

I've somewhat thought she wasn't clear enough in the past but this time round I genuinely don't know what to say in about an hour to her. I feel disciplinary coming along which can ultimately lead to dismissal.

I'm stumped for words. What do you guys think? :(

What's so bad about turning up to the wrong shift this time, since you didn't miss any shifts? You turned up god knows how early to work... why would that be worth disciplinary action?

Just explain that you need a new rota sheet as yours has gone missing...

You'll get a disciplinary for turning up early? Harsh

If you turned up at 11 instead of 9 i'm sure they'd have been a helluva lot more annoyed. If you turned up early they'll probably just be saying to themselves "idiot can't even read a rota".

Sounds like you need to get more organised mate.

About 75% Im afraid...

Just say you came in early to do some work - or had to get a lift in or something - its ridiculous you get penalised for getting in early. If they ask why you didnt say that in the first place, just say you were half-asleep and mis-heard!!!

GL mate - just treat it as an non-event...

Not been horrible but its your own fault. I always make sure my staff read the rota and sign it after they read it. That way I, as a manager am covered if any shifts go wrong and it would be ultimatly the staffs fault if they turned up at the wrong time and it would be thme to get some action taken against them and not me.

Why not in future, if you still got your job. Put your shifts on your phone after reading the rota. Im sure you have a phone that has a calender reminder on it..

The thing that would make me give you another chance is explain to your manager that its all your fault and you are going to do somthign about it. Like I said give them the idea that you will take home your own rota and ad it all onto your phone with reminders. That way you will be coming in on the right time/day. and if you was to balls up again admit to them you deserve what you get.

my 2p

Just whack all your shifts in your phone for each month - make it a proper exercise and you cant go wrong - also photocopy your rota and stick it everywhere and always have a backup in a known place ;)

Worse comes to worse - make it your wallpaper at work/home PC...

Droolinggimp, I accept that it's my fault.

I plan on going in and being completely honest with her. I've been disorganised due to personal problems, I hope to overcome that so it doesn't interfere with priorities such as work.

Don't overplay that card... it can work only becausue your boss then pretty much has to shuttup given that they cant advise you on personal problem. They'll lecture you to hell about anything else though, by the sound of it.

Where do you work? May be time to find a new job.

Get your act together buy some drawing pins, attach the bloody thing to the wall once a week/month.

You are making yourself look like a fool.

Having worked shifts and having had someone constantly turn up late and not complete work, switch the helpdesk phone ringer off and ignore alerts for 12 hours. I'd say it's very important you get yourself sorted. It's not just your boss who will be annoyed.

Blimey, they interrogated me as if I'd murdered someone. I had to talk word for word for about an hour so the person from HR could write everything down word for word. They had asked me if I needed any witnesses for crying out loud!

They elevated the meeting to step two formal action, so the head manager will now discuss with me which could lead to dismissal.

The deal they struck with me was do a Saturday shift that will practically be set in stone for late shifts only, which I felt was somewhat unfair.

I had explained my situation to about 20 colleagues and they all agreed they had gone way OTT.

I had ensured them, that I have taken steps to make sure that this will never occur again.

Still seemed that they wouldn't budge on said deal. They played the 'your hours' aren't suitable for us card.

After a while I went and spoke the lady at HR and we sat down and chatted for a while. She completely understood where I was coming from and how this job is pocket money for Uni but she told me that the options are pretty tight.

They're trying to **** you up and it seems its working.

Ask yourself this... what the hell does "step two formal action" mean anyway? They want it all to seem very very official so that you think "the system" has granted you a reprieve.

Stick it out, I'm sure it will all be fine. Don't apologise TOO much.
