Feel my pain OCUK :( *Guitar Related*

Due to up and coming deadlines for university, and the fact that my promised one hour of guitar playing starts slipping into three, I have done the horrific deed of cutting my guitar strings in an attempt to stop me playing.

Nothing else to say really, I just feel poo now as I was really getting into it again after months of neglect *tear*. I swear I heard my guitar go "What are you doing?.... No! Noooooooooooo!" as well...

Has anyone else had to undergo such a horrible moment due to other factors in their life?

...and I'm not going to do anything ridiculous to the neck by leaving it unstrung for awhile am I?

Yep, too much computer while studying for exams. Dad started to take my keyboard to work with him >.< (took me bloody ages to type things using character map )

Anybody that has an guitar at uni will have their grades affected and that is the way it should be.

You are going against your inner RAWK by doing this and in time I can imagine you coming to regret it.

...I heard you should never leave strings off your guitar. It doesn't do the wood any good at all with no tension on it.

Well quite, this is why I was a bit 'meh' after I did it. But I have seen videos of fat men jumping on the neck joint of my guitar model's neck joint to demonstrate its strength, so I'm a bit unsure..... anyone else have any wisdom with that?

And man this is rubbish, I so want to play and unleash my inner rock beast

I don't think you should leave the strings off for any significant length of time, as the necks are set to deal with the tension of the strings.

Apart from that, I think you should carry on playing. Get some discipline. Without being too much of a hippy about it, you're just denying yourself something in a negative way, instead of trying to make the problem into a positive thing. It's like people who go on crash diets to lose weight, it's worse for your health than being a fatso

So be a fatso type guitarist, not an anorexic, pale, non guitar playing skinny type. They all get fat again eventually anyway

i go without food if i need new guitar strings, i change them at least once a month

Bit of an extreme cutting the strings off, but I know how you feel. My 'tactic' was to walk into a wall Thursday night resulting in my left hands index + middle finger being strapped up for a week or so Worst thing is I actually have no work to be getting on with and so gotta find something else to fill the gap.
