Feel stupid

certain posts are exempt from gender discrimination

things like womens hostels etc it wouldnt be very good to employ a guy in a place like a refuge for women who have suffered from domestic violence now would it

As far as I know is perfectly legal to recruit by gender. But thats just judging by the advertising for jobs. So many state either male or female applicants only I'd be very supprised if it were illegal.

Pretty sure you can discriminate against anything if you have a good reason for doing so. Would a church be breaking the law if when looking for a new vicar they stated "christians only please"???

So what you are saying is, it is alright to flout the law in the pursuit of political correctness. Despite the fact that all women's hostels are run by man hating lesbians, I do agree with your point but so often the legal position differs from that of common sense. :)

Could be worse......

A friend of mine left his pc unlocked while he went to the toilet and some of his "friends" decided to type the sentence "I smoke weed everyday" into his hobbies and interests section.

He never proof read it (moron), and subsequently sent his CV off to about 50 or so companies to try and get a placement.

He never got a placement, but one company was kind enough to phone him and tell him that it wasnt very professional to have that on his CV.

Wow I would probably want to do something really bad to them in revenge.... Did he disown them?

Kind of defeats the purpose of anti descrimination laws, if you want to be truley prejudice free posotive discrimination should be as tightly controlled as negative discrimination. Thats my 2p worth. I'd apply anyway just remove any reference to Gender from your CV would be a right laugh to go to the interview!

I had something similar done to me, although I noticed it before I sent it off thank god. Under interests I had listed photography; this was imaginatively changed to pornography.

It often has a good reason though. A female friend of mine is a social worker and she applied for a post at a local prison. The application didn't state male only but when she asked for feedback about why she wasnt given the job they said they would only allow a man to do the role since the prison was a male open prison and they wouldnt be able to have a guard with her at all times.

She was a bit annoyed they didnt just say this in the first place but the decision is very understandable.

Or a gross display of insensitivity. Read the OP; benefactors of the employer are women/girls who have suffered at the hands of men. Exposure to other men could put them at unease and hinder their happiness at the centre/hostel/whatever it is. It is more than reasnable then that the centre should not have male staff.

The alternative viewpont is by exposing them to a man who, like the majorty of men, does not abuse women, they may recover from their distress earlier, be balanced and more capable of a successful relationship in the future. Of course, that doesn't fit in with the feminist political agenda though.
