Feeling guilty over stupid things

they're going to get the drink anyway so why not just save them the wait?

If we should use that line of reasoning to help us make our choices then why not go the whole hog. Those girls are inevitably going to die someday, so why not save them the wait and just push them out in front of a car?

It'd be daft to say yes, for all you know they could be working with/for the Police as part of a crackdown on underage drinking, take out the source of the booze etc.
You did the right thing.

Why was it the right thing? Illegal?

Legality doesn't decide what is right and wrong... and there are lots of worse things than alcomohol...
It was the right thing because if he'd bought it and been caught, he could have got they and he into a whole lot of trouble with the law. I'm normally the first to point out the law doesn't define what's right and wrong, but in this case I think that obeying the law was the right thing to do!

Bit of a difference between waiting half an hour for something you want and waiting a lifetime for something that you don't want, surely?

I probably would have mentioned to the shopkeeper that they were doing it. It's illegal, and the underagers would be the ones who get in the least amount of trouble over it.
Besides, would you like it on your conscience if they ended up with alcohol poisoning, or did something stupid because they were drinking on the streets? Drinking legally in a pub is much safer than hanging around outside in the cold and dark with only other drunks around you.
