Pondering whether cats have a sense of humour, I turned to ours the other day and asked the question. After looking at me quizically for a few seconds he stood up and strolled off the armchair on to the sofa where I was sitting and sat on my lap. He then proceeded to "clean" the side of my hand with his tongue for about 30 seconds then, suddenly, without warning grabbed the area with his teeth in a "play bite". He then jumped down looking rather smug and wandered off.

So it appears cats do indeed have a sense of humour, albeit mischievous and in the case of ours also understands English very well!

That reminds me of my mums (demon) rabbit...
We use to let it run around the house and one day i was sat on the sofa watching TV and the little bugger ran into the lounge from the kitchen, bit my foot and then legged it back into the kitchen!!

Yeah my cats have a sense of humor, although I don't find it funny when they are stratching to get in the window. I get off my lazy back side, open the window and they run off! Yes I know I should just leave them sitting outside!

Dogs and Cats are both great, but a cat will always make it's own mind up, a dog just gets excited about everything. Personally I prefer an animal with the ability to think for itself

Must have as my Mas' cats have bad moods, One in particular is a right stroppy **** & attacks passers by completely at Random.
Kin thing likes me (God knows why) so comes sit on my lap etc Great you'd think but I'd rather it sat elsewhere rather than prep itself for an attack on me. :(
I'd say Yes.
Dogs I think seem always happy except when ill, My Frank staffy dog don't like you laughing at him though, If he does summit stupid & you laugh he gets the Hump & gets aggressive. :D

Cats > everything else

I used to have a cat (had him since I was 2 but sadly died 14 years later) and he was great. We used to put pens/pencils onto our coffee table and all around the house leaving about an inch hanging off and he couldn't help himself and had to knock them off. If anyone was reading a news paper either lying on the floor or on a seat he would jump onto the lap of the reader and plonk himself onto the paper so you couldn't read it. He also knew which seat everyone's favourite was so if I was walking through to the living room he would bomb past me and jump onto "my" chair and sit there staring at me (or whoever seat it was)

Such great fun :)

Oh and laser pens + cats = hours of fun

Do cat's have a sense of humour?

That depends on what you might consider humour...

...one of our cats thinks it's ok to have a big fat stinky crap (without attempting to bury it) then expects to sit on your lap, after doing that turning around in circles thing which means you are treated to an exclusive view of his universal joint, which he may, or may not, then decide to lick clean whilst sitting on you.

I'm sure he does it deliberately. I've also noticed he likes to do this any time we are preparing food...

Trouble is he looks so put out and hurt when you chuck him off on to the floor, as though you're doing him a great disservice. :p

+1 for knocking things off tables and sitting on newspapers, mine does that too!

Also, the divan bed in our spare room has a hole in the base where it got ripped once. The cat knows that animals are not allowed in the spare room, so when he hears that someone is going in there, he'll bomb past into the room and dive into the bed base, knowing that there's no way we can get him out without the risk of losing a hand.

I think it's his way of getting one over on the dog, who hasn't quite figured out a way to get in to the mystical spare room yet...

Cats only show "false" affection when they want something. They only snuggle on your lap because they are cold. They are heartless, loathing creatures. A dog will be with you for the sake of being with you because it loves you... That's the difference between cats and dogs.

My cat will follow you around the house because he wants to be where you are, not necessarily on your lap or round your feet but just with you in favour of anywhere else.

Wow, your quite wrong there.

Dogs are pack animals and if your considered the leader of the pack, they will be submissive to you. They have blind loyality to their pack leader too.

Love the cold heartless loathing creatures bit! I guess you dont get on with cats at all then.

BTW, when cats show affection (rubbing around etc) its said thats them saying 'Your the boss'. Probably why they do it when they are being fed.

I've had cats and dogs in the past byt I far prefer dogs.

They are just more friendly and more like companions than cats. Cats can be friendly and all but they often just don't give a damn what you do as long as they are fead and are given somewhere nice to sleep. That and they refuse to learn anything, I don't let my cats in my room because they annoy me with ther wandering around, jumping on my desk and mewoing at me, doesnt stop them trying on every bloody occasion when my door is open.
