Ferrari 2011 Car Launched

From the BBC;

Ferrari were keen to emphasise that the car unwrapped in Italy would evolve significantly ahead of the first race in Bahrain on 13 March.
"The car you will see at the first race will be completely different from the car you will see in Valencia," Domenicali said.

Chief designer Nikolas Tombazis added: "This car is just the first step; the entire body will be changed. We will have changes visually and also in performance for our first race."

So, umm, what's the point?

Generally livery based, to get some shots for the sponsors. Plus they haven't even run it yet, so in the next 2 months they will of course have upgrades based upon running data, think about how many updates you get during the season.

Ahh ok, makes sense. Just seemed strange making such a big deal out it when they say they intend to change so much. Thanks :)

err......sound like they're flouting testing regulations to me. Sure I can possibly understand getting away with some "promotional filming" if they keep it sensible and it doesn't turn out to be 100 laps but then Massa also gets a go tomorrow :confused:

I don't know the rules on filming days before the season starts, but they changed them so they can't run parts that haven't been in a race before during the season.

Not sure how it works with the Pirellis but Bridgestone had some ultra hard tyres that had to be used if the cars were doing filming etc. These things were like concrete apparently and even warmed up gave little to no grip and would last for thousands of miles. It's possible that Pirelli may not even have tyres to give.
