Ferrybridge power station on fire

First Eastbourne Pier and now this. Is everyone in Britain about to burn to death?

/DailyMail

How many fires are started all over the world each day?

Two things burn down on two consecutive days and all of a sudden people are talking about banning fire.

Unbelievable.

Well, my house is only half a mile away. Missus have closed the windows.

I've been checking twitter every so often, and from my work, I can see the smoke turned from black to white. Hope everything and everyone is ok.

Looks like the Fgd plant on the 2 units they still have running. Could mean they can't generate for a while or if damage is extensive may be curtains due to cost of repairs

Hope everything and everyone is ok.

The BBC News Channel just said that there are no injuries or fatalities. The plant was on summer shutdown and so not providing power to the National Grid. The part which caught fire was a desulphurisation unit. The fire seems to be under control now.

Thanks!

Seems there are a few of us from Pontefract after all :) Could smell the smoke here earlier, a few miles away from Ferrybridge, thought it was someone burning tyres/rubber.

Just been past it and got a good look at it about 20 mins ago. The fire is out and now just has a small bit of smoke which the fire service is hosing down. Some burn marks around the area it was burning but nothing substantial, look superficial mostly. Dont go on the m1 south bound. Its hell at the moment.
