I am looking into buying VMWARE now, for training and studying purposes. will need to install server 2008 in a few copies and create a network between them.
I am a bit confused on which version to get? there are so many on their website, e.g VMWARE INFRASTRUCTURE, VMware Workstation, VMware VirtualCenter, VMware ESX SERVER and so on...

What are these? and the differences between them? what should I go for?

Thanks!

If this is just for home, download the free VMWare Server and use that.

Just for reference though, VMWare Infrastructure is a broad title covering ESX Server and VirtualCenter (which is the management software). VMWare Workstation is a more fully featured desktop version that Server, but it mainly comes into play when dealing with lots of images or if your creating images to dish out for VMWare Ace.

If you only want to create 1 or 2 virtual machines to play with, go for VMWare Server. Heres a LINK

Looks like you may have downloaded the client package, what you want is VMware Server for Windows Operating Systems, it's the top link after the EULA page.

Out of interest how do you cut and paste between your desktop and vmware server? I've installed the tools but it still doesnt work, anyone got any ideas?
