Took a little trip to the old mans in the T5 over the weekend .

After we left the service station 2 hours down the road we got 5 minutes down the dual carrageway and the onboard computer flashed up saying 'Brake faliure stop car asap' So we pulled into the next layby while checking brakeing and all was fine and couldnt see anything visable and pads looked ok . Let it cool down for 20 minutes and set off slowly and the warning never came up .

Few miles down the road it throws up 2 different ones saying the STC needs a service and emission sytem needs a service

Drove the last 30 minutes nice and slowly . An hour after we got there I went to check it and they had both disapered .

Can anyone shed any light on these please

According to my tame Police mechanic friend, these messages are a symptom of a failing ABS ECU. Apparently they are very expensive to buy from Volvo, but BBA Reman do service exchange apparently.

ABS computer rebuild for an 850 or V70 is £90 from nomansland garage on ebay. Posted mine off last monday and it came back the wednesday after, great service and no further problems so far.

I beleive DIY is possible if you can solder. I didn't fancy it due to replacement costs is i messed up!

Running an older performance car like this on a budget is an utterly daft thing to do if you absolutely cannot do without it. You are going to continue having niggles like this with a car of this type now it's 8 years old and whilst they are not exactly serious the requirement for a speedy resolution of any problem is going to start costing you dearly :(

Well I say cant do without it meaning if there is an emergancy/routine hospital trip as they seem to be none stop at the moment .

I have just been put on my mums insurance on her supercar slaying bluebird so I can use that when needed now .

IIRC Volvo had a recall about 8 years ago with similar error messages coming up all the time, it was some software glitch. It happened on my brother's new S40

Paying out many hundreds of pounds for a new ABS ECU is far dafter IMO (unless you have no other choice).

Its not affecting the actual car apart from the cruise control doesnt work when there is a fault thrown up so no bother there really .

A few months ago it was ok as if my car was off the road for things like valve clearances or such like then I would just use stephs but now just having the one car I cant do that .

We should hear on the mobility in the next few weeks so will just await that and pay for fix then

you may have to pay to get the fault removed, some of them cannot be cleared without vardis (SRS being an absolute bitch)

The codes only come up after a while of driving which I believe this is due to the amount of temp going through it . When I first start the car the codes are clear on the onboard computer
