The Place To Be
I've been at uni for 2 months now and I'm terrified about my fitness. We've been boozing, eating junk food (and lots of it) and I'm getting a bit of a beer belly. Puts all my hard gym work during the summer to shame.

In short, how can I quickly and effectively get rid of the belly? I'm not prepared to sacrifice the drinking, but we only get completely off our faces on Mondays and Wednesdays.

If I completely avoid junk food, how far should I be running and how often. At the moment I've only been doing 3km (11 minutes) every 2 days, and a hockey match every fortnight. Does anyone have any tips or advice? How far would be an effective distance to run on the treadmill? Or perhaps doing sit ups or resistance weights is a better idea? I honestly have no idea myself!

Many thanks,

Read sticky at top of page. It has the relevant information on diet for you to stop yourself looking like a washed-up boozer by the end of your 3rd year.

Then who told you dairy was bad for your digestive system? and why?

AVOID foods that can irritate the digestive system:

Alcohol
Caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea, and soft drinks
Dairy products
Foods that contain gluten
Foods such as soy milk and ice cream that contain carrageenan (a seaweed extract that’s added to foods to retain their creamy texture)12
Refined sugars and artificial sweeteners
Nitrites found in processed foods such as hot dogs, lunch meats, and bacon
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) found in many foods as a flavor enhancer
Partially hydrogenated oils found in many processed baked goods and snack foods
Deep-fried food, fast food, and junk food

do you also think that anything more then 2 eggs a week is bad for you because of high cholesterol ?

These two statements contradict each other. You're clearly not that bothered by it if you're not prepared to change your lifestyle.

Just stop getting off your face? It's not cool, and you'll regret it in more ways then just having a beer belly.

Alough I agree that he should stop getting wasted, just to sort of back him up a bit there is a lot of peer pressure. I mean most of my m8s are like that and when you kind of avoid getting wasted it can cause problems. However im not diagreeing with your in any way, just thats probly his problem, peer pressure.

Go for longer runs, 2km is nothing. Although with that amount of exercise you shouldn't really be getting fat just from the beer, so cleaning up your diet is probably the main thing.
