Few MOT questions

I swear the spare tyre/MOT thing has been done dozens of times in here. The spare tyre is NOT part of the MOT test. It could be completely bald with bits of wire hanging out, and you will not fail your MOT on it. The only tyres tested are the four in contact with the road.

If the spare is in the car and its below the legal limit you will fail, you don't need a spare its not an MOT requirement but if its in the car it has to be legal.

Just like the rear wash wipe, cars arn't required to have one by law but if its fitted it has to work.

Must have had a nice tester on my last MOT, i replaced one of my front wheels with the spare and put that wheel in the boot as i knew it was below legal tread depth, the passed it either way, lucky i guess.

I was right

"Spare tyres There is no legal obligation to carry a spare tyre and it does not have to comply with the legal requirements while it is stowed away. However, when fitted to the vehicle (for example, following a puncture) it must then comply with the law. A spare tyre is not a testable item in the MOT test, though the examiner may draw your attention to an unserviceable item as a matter of courtesy."
