Alright folks,

So I'm having a few problems since my recent upgrade. I've spent the past full day trying to resolve them to no avail. I may re-format and start again.

I've gone for the following -

Intel i7 4790k
Asus Maximus VII
Corsair Pro Vengeance 2400mhz
Asus Phoebus Sound card

from

Intel i7 2700k
Asus P8Z68 V Pro
Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz
Soundblaster Z Sound card

Firstly, the 4790k is HOT. I know they are supposed to be quite hot, but on Prime95 I'm getting just under 96c... It's hooked onto a H100i, and all is mounted properly and thermal paste is used correctly. Looking at the web apparently there's been a bad batch of 4790k's? But then again a lot of other people say to ignore Prime95 because Haswell hates it.

Next, my desktop has gone choppy since the upgrade. I use a 144hz monitor and it feels like 60hz sometimes, when I drag windows around it can be really juddery. I use Dual link DVI, and have SLI 680's. I never had a choppy desktop before because I used to play around with my desktop all the time and love how smooth it was. Now that's gone it's really strange and I really can't put my finger on it. Although when I first enabled SLI my PC blue screened. When it rebooted and I enabled it again it worked...

Finally, my PC time is wrong. Always. The BIOS time is incorrect, and it's a brand new motherboard so I know it's not the battery. Every time I log into Windows I have to re-set the internet time. I never had to do this before, it worked all the time!

I think that's it. I really appreciate any help with it guys :)

1) Is the boards BIOS upto date with latest? I know some BIOS for Gigabyte for example reduced the Vcore needed to operate. Less Vcore = less heat.

2) Is the display set to 144Hz in the Nvidia control panel?

3) Set the BIOS date+time correctly within the BIOS if it is wrong.

1. Ah no mate, that's a very good point. I'll flash the BIOS to the latest version, I remembered I needed to get myself a USB stick

2. Yeah mate, sometimes it still is smooth, but then it just craps itself and goes all choppy :) Single monitor by the way

3. I think I tried this but will give it another go. I'm sure it changed again when windows restarted :)

Cheers for the help mate I appreciate it

Yeah mate completely fresh.

Apparently I should take out the CMOS battery and put it back in to sort out the time problems, I'm not at home at the moment so can't give it a go. I'm also going to swap my 680's around to see if that makes any difference. As for the chip being hot I think that's just normal for Prime95 on Haswell chips. Apparently I should try it with an older version of Prime95 that doesn't use AVX or something like that :)

Ok so I've sorted a few things out :)

Desktop is now butter smooth again, it was a Windows 8.1 update called "Update 1" lol. Basically, explorer.exe would only run at 63hz, the update fixes it.

Processor is fine, runs perfect for all applications :)

Just the motherboard issue now but apparently it's a known issue. Not sure if I should RMA or not yet.

Well guys, I updated to the latest BIOS and reseated my H100i using IC Diamond 7. Oh my days what a different. Now Prime95 maxes the chip at 59c. Unbelievable difference!

And finally sorted the motherboard :)

All problems sorted, couldn't be happier!! :D
