Few Questions : My first build (asthetically pleasing :))

Hey

I had an 8800gts that was reasonably short, but you'd want a modern card with hdmi out surely? The 200 series are reasonably cheap now, and the 450 isn't exactly a bad price too! Up to you and your budget really though?

Yeah that's it really.. Only 2 DVI outs on the 8800gtx. Could run dvi-hdmi to the tele then through the optical on the H55N to the amp/tele. My budget is really flexible. But I only want it to be able to handle 1080p and audio on the fly. Adding a 5450 to the build puts me up to £400 which is acceptable to me, but is it sufficient for Full HD playback?

Hey,

If you've got money left over, get something that likes to decode bluray and any other media on the graphics card - yes why not! Its the Silverstone SG05B that he's using if I remember correctly.

Depends what you want to throw money wise at a graphics card though, but as I said, the Nvidia stuff makes it so easy to set it all up with a tv if you are wanting to do that!

This is actually bad advice if you intend to use bitstreaming, there are problems with nvidia cards and bitstreaming.

Any Ati 5xxx series card does this effortlessly and is currently a much better buy for playback duties, the 5450 is perfect for what you want it for.

As for cases they are a very personal choice it's you at the end of the day that has to sit and look at it.

@Mr Tinkle while I know you have an opinion, every thread you seem to be posting in atm is just parroting what others have said and on the whole you are offering some really bad advice.
I'm sorry if that comes across as somewhat harsh, but there's no easy way to say it other than to be blunt.
Have you built any M-itx htpc's with the latest tech in them lately, have you used any?
In all honesty I wouldnt reccomend a single thing you've posted and can only warn people not to heed the opinions you currently have.
Again,I apologise for being blunt but I cant watch people spend their hard earned money on bad advice and mis-informed opinions.

What card would you suggest from the 5 series? 5450? 5550? 5570? As I said, it's just for 1080p. Or do you think the onboard will be enough?

Thanks

Thanks a lot. Now for the final question. Do you think an i3 coupled with the H55N-USB3 is enough for 1080p plus Uncompressed audio? Or should I be going for the 5450/5550! And if I go 4550/5550, 512mb or 1gb?

They're the final decisions to be made.

Thanks guys.

As for my knowledge of 5450... I'm using 2x Dell2210 so they don't support 1080p, but it does very happily support 720 stretched across both.
I know its not that helpful to you, but thought I'd share just incase you ever consider using 2 screens :) OK admittedly pretty pointless post. Sorry :(

I'd follow Legion's advice and try the i3 on its own and worry about dedicated if it fails.

i've used the i3 onboard and it should be fine, technically it is more than capable but intels drivers are the problem.

i had an i3 530 on one of these - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-130-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1124
and it was playing blurays fine then they did a driver update and it resulted in a black screen as soon as it got into windows, so i changed back to the old drivers and all was well again.
i have had similar problems with a zotac g41 itx board where i could only use the drivers from zotacs site for the onboard gfx, so i have to honestly say that while they are technically up to the job you may have to try a few driver sets to get the best out of them.

Thanks everyone. I'll post pics when I get the stuff and try make it look as good as Drex's thread!
