Few Questions Regarding An Upgrade..

Hi, so basically I'm thinking of upgrading my GPU from a 7850 to a 7970, I only built my own PC 4 months ago but with the latest games coming out I see I probably need an upgrade to play BF4 at a high setting for example.

Few questions:

1) Is there a significant difference in performance from the 7850 to the 7970?

2) I have a 550W power supply, is that enough to run a single 7970?

3) I have a GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) ATX Motherboard, is it compatible?

And finally..

4) I have this case http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-018-XG

Will it fit?

I appreciate any answers as I'm thinking of buying it before the deal runs our on the site.

Cheers!

1) Yes, a fairly large improvement.

2) Yes 550 is enough, assuming the PSU is a good quality unit, what make is it?

3) Can't see any reason why it wouldn't be, what CPU do you have?

4) Again can't see any reason why it would't fit, you may have trouble if you have a hard disk is every 3.5" bay, but that's unlikely?

This card looks to be the sweetest at the moment, it is a three slot card though, so make sure you don't need PCI slots 3 and 4.

Yes

2) I have a 550W power supply, is that enough to run a single 7970?

Yes (though the matrix recommends 600W, get the TOP)

Sure is, what CPU do you have?

Rofl, sorry, almost the exact same answers too.

I initially linked the 7850 and 7970 comparison but then I updated it to 7850 vs 7970 GHz Edition, as that Asus is a sweet deal and perfect for his board, as the GPU slots are 2 slots apart, so could still go crossfire down the line with a bigger PSU.

Thanks for the replies lads. So you both think it's worth while upgrading then?

Oceaness you say that GPU is better than the one that's on offer the moment on the website?

Doomed I have an i5 3570k CPU.

So if I buy it I'm pretty much ready to go, plug it in and play?

Cheers.

3570K will be perfect :)

That one is on a this week only deal, which one were you specifically looking at?

And yeah plug and play providing your GPU has the required PCIe power connectors. What make is your PSU?

The one Doomedspeed linked to in post 9 :)

I have got the same one sitting in my bedroom waiting to go in :D

Any advice? Isn't the matrix just more able to over clock? I keep seeing a lot of people saying make sure it can fit in your case before you buy, I'm a bit worried about that.

The Matrix is also unlocked voltage so you can push further, at the end of the day either of the gpu's won't disappoint.

Will you be looking at extreme overclocks on the GPU?

These cards take up 3 PCI slots, your case is plenty big enough.

I have never done any over clocking before as I'm pretty new to this whole PC gaming thing mate. I thought I may as well get one I can learn to overclock with though and get more out of it in the long run rather than being stuck with just a set clock speed.

Both the top and matrix can be overclocked, its just that the matrix can be pushed a both further from what I understand. Its up to you if you think the extra £30 is worth it or not, either way either would be an improvement over your current card.
