Hi, so I was thinking of upgrading my current PC.

My specs are:

Case - Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case
CPU - i5 3570k
GPU - IceQ 3GB 7970
Motherboard - GIGABYTE Z77-D3H ATX (1155)
RAM - Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz
PSU - 550W XFX PRO Core Edition 80 Plus Bronze
250GB Samsung Evo SSD (OS installed as well as most used games)
1 TB 7200 HDD.

I have a couple questions..

1. firstly I was thinking of upgrading my CPU to either an i5 6600k or an i7 6700k, this PC will be used solely for gaming, the reason for wanting to upgrade the CPU is that games like Arma 3 (a very CPU intensive game) causes me to have stuttering which I'm pretty sure is due to the CPU as I've tested higher spec GPU's and the problem persists. Which, if any, would you suggest going for?

2. My GPU is due an upgrade as well, I only have a 1080p 144hz monitor, would it be worth while getting a 1080 if I only game at that resolution? I was thinking of a 1070 but the price gap between a 1070 and 1080 now is pretty minimal so I was thinking of going for the 1080, or are both of them overkill for 1080p? I am trying to think of the future as well incase I get a 1440p monitor along the line. What do you think?

3. Obviously if I upgraded the CPU to a 1151 chipset I'd need a new Motherboard as well, along with some DDR4 RAM?

4. I've never overclocked before and this time I really want to give it a go once I upgrade so would my 550w PSU be enough to support overclocking my CPU?

Pretty much looking at getting a whole new PC aren't I after I've said all that haha, I was thinking of maybe even selling my current PC and putting that money towards a complete new build.

I really don't know what I should as you can probably tell.

Would appreciate any help, Cheers.

I would get a new GFX card first, then maybe add a big heatsink and do a little overclock of our CPU.

A GTX1080 is OTT for 1080, a RX480 8GB, GTX1060 6GB or 1070 would be fine.

Your motherboards BIOS would likely need to be on the latest version for it to recognize the newer GFX cards.

Your PSU is also fine, it is a Seasonic inside if remember correctly.

Lastly 16GB of RAM (with a suitable 64bit OS) would also help.
