Hi guys, i'm thinking about returning to WoW, i quit playing when black temple was released..so quite a while ago. Just got a few questions to ask.

Is leveling/questing easier or harder than before? Has it be tuned even more for the casual player?
Realistically how long do you think it would take me to hit lvl 80 starting from scratch.
Has highend pvp/raiding changed? Are the new battlegrounds/instances fun?

I played a shadow priest when i used to play..are they still sought after for raids and groups?

Also could you recommend me a server to join? new or old

Thanks a lot

I've not played in quite a while but I think they are making it more tuned for the casual player - it definitely takes less time to get to a decent level and more content is always being added for the higher levels.

I quit about a month after the 3.2 patch hit as I was thoroughly bored of raiding by that time. The biggest difference between raiding at 80 compared to 70 is the introduction to hard modes either by activating them during a boss fight, making the fight vastly harder or enabling hard mode for the entire instance before you go in (latest dungeons only)

Overall the game is abit too easy. PVP is still imbalanced and they still change pve abilitys for pvp buffs/debuffs etc which use to be really annoying. Blizzard seem to be just rehashing old content now out of pure laziness. Onyxia recently made a return as a level 80 raid boss and now ragnaros, neferion etc are next :S

If you haven't played since BT then you will enjoy it to start.. then later when you start doing instances you will see how easy the game has been made. I stopped playing for that reason. It's now an AOE game aimed at casuals.. AOE tanking and AOE mobs, rince/repeat. Even Rogues have AOE it's a joke.

OK it's not quite like that in the harder HC raids but on my old server Frostmane they were still being done by pugs.

PVP is still imbalanced but it's ok.

As for Shadow Priests, yeah you'll still be needed but the reliance on classes have changed since the old days.. can't remember the last time I saw a looking for CC. There is now dual spec, which means u can spec your priest shadow and holy or whatever and change between them as needed (it costs about 1000g iirc to but the Dual spec talent) and the +healing is basically SP now...

I've not played for a while though, so maybe the really new stuff is better but at the moment I'd say give it a miss as they've lost the plot.

If you want a challenge play something else. Pretty much every aspect of the game has been dumbed down. Can't recall the last time I ever saw anyone use CC in a heroic or regular instance. Everything is AOE tanked.

The hard modes are hard, but you can still clear raids on easy enough for retards mode. Once you've cleared the raid I found going back and artificially increasing the difficulty of the encounters was a complete cop out.

you can get from 0-80 in 8-14days of playtime depending on how distracted you get from leveling and your will power to grind out quests.

the game is now easier than ever , no more crowd control abilities needing or anything just dps and heals.

soon there will be cross server instance queues for dungeons and raids like there are for battlegrounds

It's even easier these days. If you can get someone else playing the game, you both get loads of benefits from the "Refer A Friend" scheme - it's even better if they level a character with you, as you both get a 30% XP boost when grouped.
They nerfed XP requirements from 1-70 by 30%, so for someone who knows the game, reckon on about 2 weeks absolute max to get to 80.

The challenge is now doing "hardmodes" (i.e changing the raid difficulty to heroic) and specific boss related challenges. The endgame content can be experienced by most people now, they really have tuned the difficulty down. Attunements no longer exist (a bad thing in my opinion) - they now phase dungeons, as they did with Isle of Quel Danas and Sunwell Plateau. Most stuff can be pugged with the exception of some of the heroic stuff.

I'm not much of a PvPer, but the new Isle of Conquest seems quite fun. I understand that BGs are getting retuned so rated BGs will award Arena points, which will reward not just armour, but mounts/titles/other goodies.

They're not the mana batteries they used to be in BC, but still do some decent damage. The "pure" dps classes are slowly getting retuned to do the best damage overall, Hunters have been FOTM for a while, but mages and rogues are currently feeling the love (from my own experience anyway)
With dual specs, expect to be asked to pick up some Holy gear and have that as a second spec should your usual healer not turn up.

Shadow priests are one of the worst class's now for dpsing they have very good aoe dmg but the lowest single target and the homogenisation means the previous mana battery role is redundant since other class's paladins hunters mages and warlocks offer the exact same effect with replenishment. I think the next patch buffs their dmg somewhat though.

easier and yes

1-60 about 20 hours casual, 60-70 about 15 hours, 70-80 about 25 hours

no its still best geared wins, 3 they are fun but ive played the other 4 for a couple years so its a nice change

not sure on this but healers are always wanted

Also could you recommend me a server to join? new or old
no but there is a site to check the population of servers, i picked a really low populated horde server and its a bit harder in pvp but thats bout it

Thanks a lot

Yeah i've been reading that spriests aren't as good as they once were.

I played a healer from beta - early bc, then switched to shadow

I might choose a pure dps class this time, probably a mage

You get exp from battlegrounds now so you can use them to level if you get bored. I started playing a few weeks ago after quitting in Feb and there's not that much for a casual player who doesn't have time for instances. I've got a new priest around 25 and it has been really dull getting to this point - spells don't do a lot of damage and use a lot of mana.

priests are a total pain to level untill you get shadowform.
go with a pure DPS class or healer.
I'm still raiding as a shaman and on my server their pretty sought after. especially Enhancement.
but then again theres not many decent shaman on my server at all!

but as i said, Can't go wrong with pure DPS class.
and the "recruit a friend" is totally awesome :) if your lacking a friend, give me a shout! hehe

It is still a very enjoyable game, and even the casual gamer can pick up really good gear nowadays.

My main is a level 62 disc priest that has taken 12 months to reach this level. Unfortunately, it is slower to level due to low dps and you wait forever for someone to help your in any of the instances. On the positive side, when you do start reaching close to level 60, people do invite you to heal more often in the instances and the quests are much fun, especially in Hellfire Peninsula. Shame about the instance drops tho....

Shadow Priests are not really in demand especially for the harder content.

In heroics, the SP doesn't really have time to get their dots ticking before the trash (or even bosses) are dead. Even using the AOE spell (mind sear) it is still hard to do particularly high dps as the mind sear target doesn't take damage.

In 'easy' raids, such as Ulduar and normal TOC, the Shadow priest does reasonable dps and you should expect to do a fair contribution, although it is here that you will see that the SPs are currently underpowered and a decent SP wearing epic items may see themselves being overtaken by some classes wearing significantly worse gear in DPS.

When you get to the harder content (TOGC), then SPs really struggle. You are likely to be near the bottom of the DPS meters and many top guilds have left out shadow priests for this as they don't do enough dps.

The SP utility is lacking now as well compared to other hybrid classes.

In the next patch there are going to be buffs to SP damage..some of the dots are going to be affected by haste and so I expect SPs may be a bit better. Not sure how much though as i've not had time to look into it.

The buff for shadow priests in 3.3 has been changed recently to not work on shadow word: pain which is a huge reduction in how good to spriest buff will be which is a shame.

Spriests should be better in 3.3 but only probably an extra 500 dps in a raid etc.

Don't go back to it, this game is a waste of your life, i stopped playing 2 months ago and haven't looked back, just ****ed off i spent so long playing it to start with.

I think it depends on your gaming time. For me its a great pick up and play game. There are plenty of choices for instances, some take a while and others can be done in under 20mins.

I only came back to the game and started from stratch a few months ago and have a L80 druid, L77 Lock, L46 warrior and a DK i use just as an auction buyer lol

If you played when it first came out like me you will find it a lot more casual friendly. But it is certainly way too easy at times. If you can get into a friendly guild then that helps with groups.

Im on Argent Dawn if you are looking for a server. I mainly play in the evening 9pm onwards. Give me a shout if you want an invite
