FF 7 - What next?

I'm still sticking to my guns on this issue: I won't buy a PS3 until they re-release FFVII, like they promised us. No, official statements are not the only definite answer. You can't release something like that and not follow through. It's like loading your conversation with innuendo and bottling it when a girl calls you out.

I don't recall any promises being made? Who made this promise and when?

If anything the article you've linked to just references future products that may be related to Final Fantasy VII and I believe that article was before Crisis Core and the other one on the ps2 (The one with Vincent as the main).

It's been 4 years since that tech demo and I highly doubt Square-Enix will even bother right now seeing as they are still working on current projects, XIII being the most obvious.

Even if they do decide to remake FFVII one day, that probably won't be until we get remakes of V and VI (They are the only classic ones left to do), and we'd be on the next generation of consoles by then.

If you've got an Xbox360, I'd say Lost Odyssey. It's not perfect, but you can certainly feel the Final Fantasy influence in it, and in a lot of ways (possibly due to the whole semi-steampunk midgar side) both games now remind me a lot of each other.
Both quite different games of story etc, but I think they make good companion pieces, Lost Odyssey is about as close to a FF 're-imagining' than anything else so far.

Well Lost Odyseey was created by Hironobu Sakaguchi, so it's not surprising that it contains a Final Fantasy feel to it. And then you also have Nobuo Uematsu doing the soundtrack as well.

I found Lost Odyssey to be extremely boring. None of the characters really appealed to me and progression always seemed too drawn out. Random battles were a constant annoyance and often lasted as long as a boss fight whereas in FF7 they felt a lot more fluid.

The ideas behind the game were nice, I just didn't feel that they were at all well executed.
