some info here
accessing new URL's causes FF to hang in NoscriptBM.js script

I had not realised this add on auto-updates, I will now block this, by installing an add-on to control updates

What I did to workaround
- Export noscript config
- remove noscript add-on
- download an older vesrion (via chrome) from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/addon/noscript/versions/
I used 5.0.10
- install that - 'drag and drop' into browser
- reload config

anyone else impacted ?
I've wasted an hour trying to find out what was wrong

couple of other links

NoScript 5.1.2rc3 completely trashes Firefox 45
URL Bar freezing with latest NoScript

so older FF's seem most impacted

But even for newer 57 FF
It was working fine after the "legacy" system came in; 3/4ths of my addons are now listed as legacy - but they all still work. NoScript vanished after the latest update, and even the developer says he is mystified why.
I wonder if the ad people have figured out the NS blocks more adverts than ABP+ ....

Are the days for the powerful ad blockers numbered ?

NoScript is now available for FireFox 57 (Quantun) but it is much more involved than it was and appears to have been updated recently.

I am deeply suspicious about the supposed "improvements" and do wonder whether it has now succumbed to commercial interests.

As jpaul asked some months ago "Are the days for the powerful ad blockers numbered?"

Noscript was discussed subsequently in the Quantum thread - I thought it was up and running with similar interface ? (bar the vpn features, was it ?)
The recent comments there about automatic laoding of trial add-ons are more worrying.

I can't comment on what interface you have seen but in my experience, it has only started to look like the way it does now with "Default", "Trusted", "Untrusted" and "Custom" buttons since Quantum.

I would include an image to show what I mean but it doesn't appear to be possible?
