ff7

Remember that ps1 emulation is legal, as long as you have the original game and have the bios from your ps1. So you get the best of both worlds.

Final fantasy music is brilliant, you can download all the midi files free from the square enix website, only 1mb or so for the collection. :)

I prefer the PC version over the PS1, i thought the music sounded better and the graphics looked sexier in all their mip mapped glory :p

I just made sure i used a decent gamepad and set the buttons up the same as the PS1 joypad. The ingame timer runs to 99hours, mine had hit that a long time ago, so i can't be sure how many actual hours i played it for. Thoughts of leveling up hour after hour is giving me a weepy eye :o

Oh by the way, you'll need a couple of patches for it to run on XP.

it's just not the same playing it on PC

It just wouldn't be the same game without those memory card corruptions! I was so annoyed when that happened . . . luckily I managed to restore it onto another card.

"The soundtrack for Final Fantasy VII was composed by Nobuo Uematsu. Instead of recorded music and sound effects for the game, Uematsu opted for MIDIs, using the PlayStation's own internal sound chip. He has explained that he chose this method because it allowed the console's CPU to process audio data more quickly, which in turn allowed it to focus more on processing the game's 3D engine and to prevent noticeable load times. The game was originally intended to feature a vocal piece, but this was cut due to the limitations imposed by recorded audio. However, a song with full choral backing is heard in "One-Winged Angel".[46]"

"Nobuo Uematsu's usual influences include Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Simon and Garfunkel, and Elton John.[1][2] In regard to Final Fantasy VIII, Uematsu did not prefer to use multiple sources to find MIDI instruments — "I could be coming up with a great melody in the very moment" — instead using a Roland SC88 synthesizer for the entire score"

Another ff game using midi.

Maybe x-2 and 12 use mp3 but the classics are mostly midi tracks.

In my opinion the best version is the PC version due to all the extra mods that are available for it now. The music for the pc vanilla version is dire, however, by following a simple guide, you can get it to sound just like the psx version. Heck you can even use mp3's from the official music cd's. Other modifications allow higher resolution and the use of the battle models througout the game instead of the blocky models on the world map. One other thing to note was the reason for the games fmv's looking so blocky on the PC version is due to the game being ported over from psx to the pc. The videos themselves were not compressed in any way, but due to the pc running in 32 bit colour. I think if you reduced the colour of your windows to 16 bit (I know, I know, who really wants to do that? ;) ) the fmv's in the game will look a lot better. I'm not 100% certain on that though. Take a look at the game tweaking forum at http://forums.qhimm.com for more information and screenshots for what can be done to your ff7 game and i think you will agree that the pc version is now the better version.

Ive played all the FF from 7 onwards apart from 12 as my ps2 died awhile ago and i was w8ing for the ps3 release, but i saw that FF12 isnt playable on the UK version.

FFXII works perfectly on the UK PS3. It has done for quite a while now.

Shame the combats turn based. Think i would have liked all these if it wasnt so boring combat wise as in giving orders etc and the menus stuff.

There's nothing wrong with turn-based combat. It can be far deeper than real-time combat if the truth be told. Now if you mean the random battles are in a pain the ass and boring then I'd agree with you. It's much better when you can see your enemies on a map and have the opportunity of avoiding them if you wish. The battles can be too long in some of the Final Fantasy games though. I remember some of them in FFVIII being particularly drawn out and a little tedious.

I checked Sonys website and it isnt in thier comapatablity list, nor was MGS 3, another game i would like to play.

Their compatibility list has been out of date for ages now. I've been playing FFXII for a good few hours over the last few nights and it works perfectly.

Nobuo did all the tracks for Advent Children too, is a fantastic soundtrack just listen to in the background.

Have the urge to play FFVII again now after this thread, get myself a Gold Chocobo and go racing for a laugh then go in to the battle arena.

So I take it they have fixed the stuttering fmv's then?

They must have done. I think they stuttered a little with the launch day update but for the last few updates it's been fine.
