Jesus doesn't love me! I just decided to use my Ps3 for the first time in ages, with my newly purchased Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories and the bloody thing makes a huge popping sound! No lights no nothing and to top it all off my game is still stuck inside the Ps3. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. So now I have had the 60GB and 80GB version \o/. I really hate the look of the Ps3 slim :-(.

I think it may be the power supply, but I was installing a game at the time so the HDD may be screwed, what do you lot think?

Sounds like a PSU issue, if you are Lucky it could have just taken out an internal fuse, the crackling would be something going POP!

That does sound very much like the PSU going, especially as its not responsive at all. If you're not in warranty, it might be a good idea to take the plunge and have a look at it.

On the plus side its still under extended warranty, with two months till it expires .

Say good bye to your save games - unlike 360, the PS3 HDD is tied to the PS3 itself (I learned this the hard way when my 60 died, couldn't be repaired and I tried to swap the hdd into a 250 slim).

DRM based on console, as opposed to PSN / XBL account details = completely retarded.
