FFS. After service/ cam belt change

Seems you guys might be right, on the way to them this morning (after 5 minutes driving) with the temp needle all over the shop I get this:

Because I was stuck at the traffic lights in town. It had just come on at this point. I was a minute away from them.

Yes they did change the water pump. The car is also not blowing any warm air when the heater is on.

It is with them now so I wont be driving it until it is sorted, I am not happy.

They've just phoned and said it was an airlock in the system, they've had it running since fixing it and it hasn't came up with the warning again. All re-filled with coolant and system drained.

You will be laughed out of the door if you ask for a refund or compensation. This isn't America.

Some cars are just a pain to bleed unless you have the correct vacuum pump.

All they can do is fix their mistake. I reckon you would still be ****ed off asking for a refund if they were a day late.

To be fair the owner was there waiting for them to finish off so they had no time to run it up to check it properly.
I'm just hoping the OP hasn't cooked it up & borked the head gasket but as the garage now says it's not overheating it sounds Ok.
Dodged a bullet I reckon.

No, I would not be asking for a refund if they had said we need to keep it until tomorrow as we have run out of time, I'd accept that (I only live a 15 minute walk from town so it would have been no hassle to leave it with them), this however in my eyes is not acceptable.

I was only waiting to pick it up at 6pm, I phoned at 4:45 to see how it was going and he said it would be ready in about 30 minutes (I arrived at about 5:50 as thought would have a look around town to give them extra time), so what am I expected to do?

I expect some level of honesty from people if they do not have enough time to do something.

Why the hell is it still running while you took the photo?

To be fair the only indications of a problem is a temperature gauge in the red, a red warning light marked STOP, and a text message saying "Engine Overheating". Nothing to really imply you should pull over and stop the car immediatly :P

You should try it

I got £200 from BT for failing to keep an appointment
A free service from a FORD dealership

Plenty of other stuff when people have failed to keep the arrangement they have made or provide the service they have been paid to provide
By law people (or businesses) making themselves out to be professionals are expected to provide a service equal to that, anything below is not acceptable and bearing in mind you have paid for a professional, failure to act accordingly (such as checking their work is satisfactory) should lead to recompense.

All it takes to check is to leave the car running until it reaches temperature and squeeze a few coolant hoses to disturb the flow, stick the heaters on.
Sounds like they just failed to check. Its basic stuff that shouldn't be forgotten really.

Not really. The workshop should have refilled and bled the system, it's not difficult.

I can recommend a good garage that let me have my car back when I left it to the 'professionals' to fit my new brakes (I normally do brake stuff), to discover the brakes didn't actually work. You can imagine I was pretty amused when he quipped that I should be careful as the brakes are pretty sharp, just before I left with the car (and he was shutting up the garage).

Countless times I've had to fix botched jobs at garages.
