Fiat Seicento 899cc

It did start till my battery went flat,
The ignition lights still come on but everythings slow ... electric windows, wipers etc

but while i was driving the speedo was playing up and my dashboard light were dim.

Started but died on you does sound like alternator more than battery. As previously mentioned, 30 seconds with a voltmeter is the easiest way to figure it out.

When I had my alternator die on me I was doing 70 on a A50, all my electronics died - which was fun. Grabbed a voltmeter when I got it back home and quickly diagnosed it as alternator not battery.

Confirmed alternator :-D

My mates words :
Your alternator was ****ed
At idle it was charging the battery but once over 2000rpm it wasn't doing anything.
During testing he was surprised the alternator didn't set fire

Anybody recommend an cheap bigger engined car.

When I was 13 - 14 I was told not to touch cars over hundred thousand miles - what is your verdict or experience with buying cheap high mileage vehicles.

Seen a nice 1.6 Vectra with 110,000 on the clock.

You can file that advice in the bin for the most part.

Also, there's no such thing as a nice 1.6 Vectra :p:D I'm the first one to say that a second class drive is better than a first class bus ride, but there are limits. Unless it's staggeringly cheap and immaculate of course!

Be worth starting a new thread outlining your requirements and current situation, you will get more response in a new "what car" thread than this one.

Condition and history is worth more than mileage, a low mileage but old car can often be more abused (and tired e.g. things like suspension bushes etc need replacing due to age fatigue), rather than a high mileage younger car.

Also worth looking at the history, as it may be preferable to buy say a 125k mile car (that has had cambelt done at 120k in accordance with manufacturer), and other major expenses e.g. clutch, rather than a 90k car that will need these doing.

Depends on your budget / what you need, but a Vectra probably isn't the best option - hence the need to start another thread.

Firstly, don't worry too much about mileage, how it has been looked after is what matters. My old car was on 141,000 miles when I sold it, I bought it with 114,000 on it. Loved that thing. Current car just ticked over 90,000 and I will keep it well beyond 100,000.

My Dads car is on 167,000 miles, his old one was on 202,000 when he sold it, and there wasn't anything wrong with it either, he just wanted a change... :)

A Vectra is not the answer to anything, they are miserable awful things. Start a spec me thread! But be warned, the only cars that will get mentioned for the first three pages are Mondeo's and E46 BMW's... :D

Hi Guys

Delayed reply been busy.

Got myself a Ford Fiesta 1.3 Finesse 5dr - 85k miles - Y Reg - £540 off of mate with full history.

Had it for about a month now and love it. changed the Air filter and Oil cap (Rubber Seal gone) - Oil change Friday if i can get the damn sump plug out..

Safer and quicker than my old 899cc seicento that i still have but declared off the road.

New thread .... But i like the people in this one lol
