No thread around, so might as well start one.

The FIBA World Cup in Japan is in full swing, with the second match day coming to conclusion today.

Some of the surprises on the first day: Puerto Rico pushed the US hard to the wire and the US won a close-fought game 111-100.

Argentina beat France (who were missing Tony Parker) 80-70, Italy demolished Jao Ming's China 84-69 and Turkey just clinched victory over Lithuania 76-74.

As for surprises on the second day, Italy beat Slovenia 80-76, and France beat Serbia 65-61. Finally, twice European Champions Greece reiterated their ambition to do well in this world cup and beat tournament favourites Lithuania 81-76. Lithuania are now in trouble having lost 2 matches in a row. Later today, the US play China.

Further updates to be posted :)

Match Report for the China game.

Todays games, and China has lost again, this time 87-90 to Puerto Rico.

Lithuania record their first victory of the tournament over....Qatar, winning 106-65.

Italy defeat Senegal 64-56, and European Champions Greece underline their ambitions by winnning their third match 72-69 against Australia.

Turkey go level with Greece in the group after squeezing a 73-71 victory over Brazil and Slovenia battle but ultimately lose to the US 114-95.

Spain destroy us 70-42 to clinch the World Cup :o

They were brilliant and we had no reply to their aggressive defence and their sniper-like shooting - they won deservedly. Ah well, still, 2nd is still a great achievement, esp. considering the opposition we knocked out along the way :)
