Just out of interest in wondering what is need to make a link between 2 pcs by fibre, say 10gb?

What cards would I need?
Would it be expensive?

Scope for future improvement?
Thinking of building a router soon so could spec that for copper and fibre as well.

Why do you need 10gb?

Answer is I don't "need" it.

I'm interested in learning more about fibre and I learn best by getting involved with and implementing things.
I have a file server in the shed and my main PC is about 10 metres away from it so would be a fairly easy cable run.
Why not give it a try?

10Gb fibre equipment is horribly expensive for home users (especially if you want to build it into a router) and home kit won't translate to anything usable that you can use in the commercial environment anyway.

It isn't anywhere near as hardy as Cat5e/6 either so if you plan to run it to your garage you will need some heavy duty cable protection to run it outside in.

Cat6e is a made-up meaningless cable standard. It's best to assume that it's all junk.

Cat6 and Cat6a both support 10GBe (just at different maximum distances).

Think I was ment to say cat6A but oh well (had a few to drink):o... you know what mean. I think cat6a is 500mhz rated? 10Gbit / cat6 = 250Mhz 10Gbit. hence maximum distance
