Hi

I'm after a FTTC router which will allow me to lock down RDP, SMTP etc access to just a few specific external IP addresses. Needs to be wireless also and hoping to spend less than a £100 if possible. Any suggestions?

Cheers

Yeah you would. I don't think sub-£100 for a VDSL2 modem, router with the sort of ACLs you need and access point is a realistic requirement right now. The closest thing is the DrayTek 2860 series but they are nowhere near your budget.

I have the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite. Bare in mind on top of this you'll need a wireless access point and a switch.

So your setup would be..

VDSL modem > Edgerouter Lite > Switch > Wireless Access point.
~£120-400

If you pick that Mikrotik, it would be..

VDSL modem > Mikrotik (built in switch and AP)
~£90

Some experience with routers would be advisable.

I'll put the "other" side of conversation from bledd.

I have the Mikrotik. You would need a modem (ISP router in bridge mode?).

Mikrotik has individual IP lists so you can create a list for SMTP, a list for RDP so on and so fourth if you wish.

Built in 2.4Ghz wifi, this can house multiple SSID's and networks simultaneously accommodating for guests/employees/kids and all can be rate limited as well.

IMO the edgerouter with separate wifi AP would be the best solution if not on a budget and you spend the right money, but then you look at ER Pro and not the Lite and your AP's become dual band etc etc.

The Mikrotik is a nicer one box solution which is just about within budget and has absolutely bags and bags of potential. It can do pretty much anything you need it to. (Although I don't have much experience of the ERl so can't comment on that bit).
