a few of you on here are into your fords, does anyone know if the 1.25 is an interference engine? ive not got access to autodata at the mo and someone wants me to change the belt on a 1.25 where the belts slipped (tensioner failed)

unlucky. it was started up, sounded rough and driven about 20 miles home! for fun i might get the plugs out and see if you can see gouges on the pistons

Need to get the belt & tensioner changed on the gf's, I have it ready. Just need my mechanic to fit it

saying that, cosmetically its not actually in bad nick, i dont think shes trashed it too badly on bollards and such. shame though because she "loved" it. it was dependable but goes to show you how important it is to keep it serviced right.

to be fair though, she has no real interest in cars (how many women do?) so it was hardly something she would have thought much about. no harm in reading the manual though!

but she said it sounded terrible. she described it and i got the impression of a dry top end so thought it woudl just need oil.

the belt is barely on. getting the plugs out and looking will be useful. would love an endoscope

she's a woman?

just a few degrees out on either cam can cause seriously cack running.

anyway, again if it ran under load it couldn't have interfered THAT much.

sort out the belt, take the plugs out and have a look by all means, but if its coked/oiled up you'll lucky to see anything on the crown. Check them at BDC, you'll have a better all over view of the crown surface area.

do a comrpession test, it doesn't matter if theres been slight clash, as long as valves are straight, not chipped, and are still sealing... does it matter if theres been a bit of gorging? not really, again if it drove it honestly can't be that bad.

or it would have went bang, and she would have got it no where.

if you really want an endo, m aplins have a cheapy effort, £100-200? I'd just compression test it myself

it hasn't gone though has it, slipped enough to make it run rough but not enough to stop it from driving 20 miles. Cam belt kits are hilariously cheap for these so i'd just put a new one on and see how it goes from there.

apparently it ran "normal"

shes due to replace it with a new car anyway so itll prolly end up being scrapped, shed rather not spend money on it when she was planning to replace it so soon anyway

£13k going into a new fester
