Hi guys

Quick question, the Mrs picked up a 58 plate fiesta Mk6 today which has the heated front screen button which lights when you press it and makes a little electronic click. The question is, is there a way of testing this it its not misty lol! Reason I ask is on my focus you can see the wires in the glass but on this Fiesta I cant seem to see and wires in the glass.

Have they changed the design? Or has it not got a heated front?

Cheers!

The wires are generally visible (I have a mk6 St with heated front screen) although they are discrete, so you should be able to tell although you'll have to look fairly closely :)

Great, i really dont think there is any in there ive looked really hard!

Why would this be then?

You will be able to see the wires if it is heated, as you say you can't it sounds like the previous owner has had a new screen fitted and probably had to pay as they didn't have screen cover on their insurance. By putting a normal screen on they will have saved a couple of hundred.

If it had been replaced at some point (due to vandal damage, a bad stone chip etc) they could have put an aftermarket non-heated screen in I suppose, to save money. What does the etching on the glass say?

If you can get the plastic trim to come off the inside of the 'A' pillars you will be able to look at the contacts where the cars wiring attaches to the heater elements, they are about half way up the screen on either side of it - normally you can't quite see the edge due to the way the trim covers it, but remove it and you'll see if there is any electrical connection to the screen. That should give you a better idea. If there are none or appear disconnected/chopped off, you'll know for sure thats its not heated. I have to say you would definitely be able to tell the lines are there if you looked for them, so from the sound of it it doesnt have a heated screen....

If you don't fancy doing this then maybe ring up Ford, if you can give them the VIN and the reg plate they may be able to tell you the standard specification and if this included heated front screen (I'm afraid I dont know what all Fiesta trim levels came with as standard equipment).

Im absoluty fuming! There is definatly no heated screen, no drop in revs or voltage when pressing it on. We have just bought this car today and didnt think to check this as I would expect it to be heated if it had the button!

They should have been standard as its the climate pack which in cluded it!

Where do you think I stand on this?

Just removed the A piller to check, found the connector with a small bit of ribbon thats been cut from the original screen :( I could scream! This was one of the main reasons we choose this car!

Seriously, turn it on and fog up the screen with your breath!

My suggestion as well.

You should see it clear in zig zaggy lines.

EDIT: What the hell? Ninja edit or what!

Either way, was it advertised as having heated windscreen? If it was, and is supposed to be standard, and anyway, if the button is there, it can be assumed to have bee sold as having it. Its a dealer fault.
