Chaps,

My mum is down with me at the moment and we have just had a call her Fiesta is gone. Does anybody know if these are easy to take without the keys? Or are we expecting the house to be ransacked too? :(

Edit: this is a non keyless, 2017 model. Seems they do suffer from OBD port. I'm not sure if the car has an alarm at all - it does have an immobiliser though.

I've seen a few of posts on local Facebook groups lately about Fiestas being stolen, but I couldn't quite work out why as it was all just run-of-the-mill models, not STs or anything. Not that a normal Fiesta is a bad car, but it's not particularly exotic so I didn't think it would be much of a target...is it purely because they are relatively easy to steal that they get targeted?

Must be. It was a minter too - 2017 with 14k miles. :(

Most likely being stolen to be broken down into parts and sold. If the car is easier to steal due to known vulnerabilities then they will be targeted.

Sucks that the car is gone but someone entering your home is a whole world of difference when it comes to the mental anxiety of a car getting stolen.

Cars are replaceable, your home is your home and you don't want that being violated in any way.
10000%. I was properly anxious for her (and me). Time to reassess security again. Sucks.

Friends for stolen, watched the video he had of it being stolen. In through the boot, cut the steering wheel to get the lock off. Must've been less than 5 minutes.

Quite common for people to disable the boot handle on them because of this, loads of people remove the odb port etc too. Sadly very very easy to steal.

For some reason going via the boot doesn't trigger the alarm.

I did wonder about the steering lock but I assume it is easily snapped.

Might be worth keeping an eye out for underpriced Fiestas on Facebook marketplace. Unlikely you'll see it, but this seems to be where they attempt to sell stolen cars.

They also have a weakness via the little quarter windows as well. When I had one people were breaking those and reaching the OBD port from there as it didn't set the alarm off.

The security systems on modern cars are pretty rubbish.

Weren't they worth more second hand than new during COVID?

It is absolutely nuts, but in this case, kind of worked in your favour I hope!
The blessing is I had deferred some maintenance that was on the MOT for the last 4 years (leaky shock, bushes), and need two tyres. It's also the wet belt ecoboom so was due cambelt at some point...

Well, I hope all those things go wrong very quickly for the scum bag that took it, before someone else ends up with it!

That ford wet belt "technology" is a ridiculous idea. My friend runs a van hire company and the transits have it. They have left a few customers high and dry and him out of pocket!
