Fiesta XR2s....

Penski you pick the chokes on Webers to suit the engine. 40's take anything from a 28mm up to 36mm, 45's take 34mm up to 42mm etc. Most people pick them waaaaay too big because they think the engine is more than it is, hence the flatspots and the loss of power at the bottom end. To compensate they then have to fit monsterous throttle pump jets which totally kill the fuel economy and foul the plugs up. Basically it boils down to people not understanding what they are doing. I'm not trying to say they are any better than bike carbs because they aren't but apart from the economy thing there's not much in it.

O/T However I am talking a buddy into fitting a set of 8 bike carbs to his Rover V8. He was talking about quad Webers but an octet of kwackers would be the baws  ;) :D

And the staying-in-tune thing (;))

Eight > four. It's simple maths ;)

Here's an idea for you then. What about one of these instead?

quantum.jpg

It's a quantum coupe. Based solely on the xr2. Full xr2 running gear, engine etc. Full fibreglass chassis meaning very light and no rust. You can pick them up on ebay for peanuts nowadays. Plus insurance is very cheap even for new drivers!

My quantum was probably the best fun I've had in a fwd car. 130bhp, 800kg and awesome handling. I used to take mine to trackdays at Crail and Knockhill all the time. I gave it death whenever I drove it and it never complained!

Don't worry, I'm not having one of them! My long term (next 5 or so years) goal is to built a proper kitcar of some sort, either a Fury, Striker or Dax... Don't fancy the idea of a posh/fast looking body sitting on the floorpan of something else.

The space issue is the killer really, I might have to wait until we move to somewhere with a garage we can use :(
