Fifa 08 - Tips

It's LB for one-twos and such on default controls, I'd assume that'd be a different control scheme.

Whilst I'm on the subject of controls, how many of you use semi-automatic shooting?

Always semi auto, Full auto completely lacks subtlety and subsequently limits the angle you shot will go in at. Manual had me sticking it in the stands, with semi the ball goes pretty much where your aiming.

The Left trigger 'triggers' the run for making through balls etc. and holding lb whilst passing is a one-two hence why it also triggers the run.

My god this game annoys me. I went online early and went to Accrington who are 1/2 a star. I waited to see if my opponent would choose someone similar. Guess what? He picks Barcelona.

I ended up going as Milan to give myself a chance and due to the game being slow as **** I gave away 3 stupid goals. Why does it take so long to change direction or pass? Even when holding LB for cose control, it all seems so delayed. Passing is annoying unless you do one timers.

I want to love this game but it annoys me more everytime I play it.

I approached FIFA08 trying to play it like PES5, shimmying past players and passing straight through their defence. Didn't work. You can still fly past people by alternating direction 45 degrees or so, but it can be hit and miss, and is occasionally quite easy to read. Faking a shot works too, providing you go at 45/90/180 depending on the situation. Quite a few players, not the AI though, tend to overcommit when trying to tackle, and give you that few yards to change direction and skip by.

Instead, I play a slower game, waiting for something to open up. I generally try and defend with my midfielders, keeping my back 4 quite flat and deep. I tap A to tackle, and occasionally use B to do the same with a second player if need be. Going wide can work quite well too, switching wings around the center of the pitch with a long ball can open up space.

Once you're used to the engine, it all depends on how your opponent plays, and how well you read the game.

Since changing to manual through balls, thanks to Shamikebab for that, I'm enjoying it more as I'm not trying to force a through ball now and I'm slightly better at it then the computer :p

True statement about not playing it like PES, it's such a different style and not so much of a twitchy style. In PES you had a near instant turn and could weave your way through a whole team, but that just isn't possible on Fifa(well for me anyway)

Just like scary said this game is so frustrating, the players seem so heavy an unresposive at times yet its realistic, thats what keeps me coming back and the slick graphics.

Anyone got any tips, the ones above helped a bit, but i find it impossible to beat players without the tricks, i use the tricks but i find they are hit and miss and they are overpowered. I know i should use buid up but it does get boring.

after reading my OP from a long time ago I can safely say I'm much better, I still have a few qualms with the engine though, such as the fact I can't score unless I'm in the box
