Fifa 13

I play FIFA online since 08 and have sunk so many hours into it, sooo fun game. get lags/ea server cut off once in a while which is quite annoying. But never seem to get bored of playing it :P

I used to love Pro Evo but feel that FIFA has recently overtaken it in terms of gameplay.

I understand this argument in a certain respect, as if even I were to list all the things I liked about both games, then the FIFA list would be much longer. FIFA is after all a good lap or two ahead of PES in terms of developmental evolution. Having played both games extensively however, I just feel that PES has a much better AI system and offers a much more fluid and exciting game of football. The AI in FIFA is a little bit loose and shaky for my liking and EA have never quite managed to iron-out the input delays (fanbois would say 'animations playing out') that can serioulsy hamper both defensive and attacking play.

But for all the flaws contained within them, both games are very good this year. Anyone who says otherwise is a clown whose opinion doesn't count.

PES never showed up this previous gen. hope they show up on the next gen of gaming.

i dont have much lag on fifa. its great 8/10.

Fifa has far superior online features though. no ifs or buts about it. PES doesnt even have 11v11 and that has been a revolutionary game mode for football games..

PES needs 11v11 lag free MP matches and realistic smooth gameplay to go toe to toe with fifa

Jonney, 2 years ago and you were all over the PES forums pressing everyone to play online PES 2011 (online was crap as that game was also crap).

Now it seems you have shifted your evangelical passions over to FIFA.

PES can go head to head with FIFA in my view, cos PES in my opinion is a better game than FIFA. I couldn't care less about 11 v 11. I only play 1 v 1.

I carefully calculate which is the better game (in my opinion) by monitoring which one I enjoy the most and none of your drum beating will change that.

PES can compete in gameplay terms but it isn't a fully fleshed out product like FIFA is, nor is it even close to competing in terms of player and goalkeeper animations and just the general visuals are sorely lacking in comparison. PES has it's advantages as well like you said much better A.I (I think more variety in ball physics as it stands) and better team management setting and of course manager mode and become a legend destroy FIFA's offering for me on the pitch anyway.

I'm actually genuinely excited about PES 2014 after reading that EDGE article thank God for Fox Engine, it may or may not be better than what EA will be presenting at E3 along with Konami it'll be an interesting battle of sorts.

I actually hope along with all those important gameplay changes many of which haven't been announced yet, they can also combine that with an improved online experience...and yes copying FIFA and making sure they can compete with Ultimate team and Pro Clubs (11v11) if they don't it's a lost opportunity and far worse than that lost sales for them as EA keeps the juggernaut on top without competition in key game modes.

I actually play clubs almost as much as 1v1 these days and it'd be nice to not have to play legends mode online to try and get a similar experience to what FIFA offers, especially when you consider the fact that become a legend mode is 10x better than FIFA's offering offline. You actually have to play a significant portion of your career (100's of games) to develop to a point where you're competing with a Ronaldo or Messi in stats terms and while they do have a store (not financial just in game currency you earn like EA Coins) to buy performance boosts for your player in PES 2013 hopefully that's removed and never sees daylight again.

From the little snippets I saw of FIFA 14 for current gen it looks like they finally implemented a few real world ideas that had been in PES since 2009-2010 so a bit shocking that they leave it until the very last big fifa for the xbox/ps3 to implement the likes of Knuckle shots and rising/dipping shots. :o

They better all make their way to the next gen offering as well (don't want a half asses but visually amazing game like FIFA 06 RTFWC (2005) if anyone remembers.

I think the battle for next gen is going to be great PES was the king of the PS2/Xbox era FIFA of the 360/PS3 era and now they'll likely both be at a point where they're both delivering at the same time a well made produt

I have played both games extensively and am very aware of FIFA's superiority in most departments, especially those that are involved with making first impressions. But all the bells and whistles in the world cannot make up for a good solid core gameplay. Now FIFA has good core gameplay, but it just isn't great and in my opinion never has been. I love the great variety in which the ball can be controlled and distributed about the park in FIFA, compared to PES's stale 'play simple carpet football in midfield or lose possesion' thing that hasnt evolved much in ten years or so. However, in the final third, FIFA's limitations reveal themselves. All the delays (input delay, 'animations playing out', or whatever) that seperate the gamer from the action become intolerable after while, both in terms of attacking and defending. This lag in gamer input also really highlights the AI scripting in FIFA, whereby the AI sets up the NPCs in such a way that facilitates a goal, or simply does not allow a goal no matter what the gamer does. PES by comparison, is electric in the final third, where the gamer can genuinely rely on split second reflexive gameplay to make the difference between winning or losing. Of course, PES has its problems and like FIFA, is also scripted as hell, but it just isn't as obvious. PES AI is also much harder to exploit. I can stomach online PES up to a point but after just a few online FIFA six yard tap ins that I can do nothing to prevent, I am truly sick to the gut of the game.

There will be no battle. EA would really have to drop the ball in a big way to lose FIFA's huge following. Anything short of EA having a PES 2008 moment like Konami did 6 years ago, and FIFA will retain the crown. Gamers tend to like what they get used to and/or tricks they have invested a lot of time in learning. For gamers to jump from such a franchise would mean that the many years spent developing the instinctual memory skills invovled with being a master of a particular title are all rendered meaningless and indeed can serve as a hinderance to instant accessibilty of the competing title.

I will play both. Starting with PES no doubt, playing it to death until it starts to cheese me off, then over to FIFA for a while, before realising that it cheeses me off even more than PES does. But that is me. FIFA to outsell PES by 20/1, again no matter how ingenious a game that Konami manage to produce (or not).

Fair points but I meant a battle in terms of who has the better product, if it's a battle of sales then did PES ever win ? maybe one or two years in certain markets but never on a global scale. Of course FIFA has grown thanks to the reduced competition PES has offered in recent years but that also means there's a sizeable portion of the market to win back even if that only results in a million or a couple of million more sales after a couple of years those are dramatic results... and I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.

People who pick licenses over gameplay would all pick up FIFA anyway regardless.

From FIFA 08 where there were about 7 million-8 million sales a year to FIFA 14 where there are 14.5 million sales by the end of April not including revenue from Ultimate Team....and EA Sports Season Ticket... PES probably sold 3-5 million ? this year also so they can at least double that through the lifetime of PS4/Next Xbox.

I think by the time of PES 5/6, PES actually was overtaking FIFA in terms of sales. This perhaps marked a turning point where the execs at EA had to recognise that something was wrong with their footie title (FIFA used to be utter garbage) and a turn around was needed.

FIFA 07, was a big improvement on what went before, in that the new development team simply tried to make their own version of PES. FIFA 08, built on this change of direction by adding many new layers of animations and control but really and truly, was an utterly turgid lacklustre affair. However, across the breadth of the old continent, Konami had urinated on their boots with PES 2008, an unfinished train wreck of a game. In 2007/08, there was no other choice in offline or online video football except FIFA 08. The following year, with PES 2009, Konami fixed PES 2008, yet brought nothing new to the table and once again, the online component of the game was inexcusable. Meanwhile, EA had made FIFA09 much more fluid and exciting than the previous iteration, and the online once again, was top quality. PES 2008/FIFA 08 caused most of my gaming social circle to 'convert' over to FIFA from PES. This started the landslide which was completed by the following years titles. More so than any other type of video game, what football game someone plays will depend on the game that all their friends are playing.

Konami were gaining the upperhand in market share, but for some reason, whether it be organisational short-sightedness or some more dastardly form of corporate sabotage (there is big big money involved here), Konami has not just shot themselves in the foot, but blown their whole leg off. Konami has a mountain to climb.

You have to wonder what goes on at Konami as they used to be top of the pile and it must be at least 5 years that they have been churning out a load of rubbish that Fifa just wipes the floor with, do they not have a board of testers, producers or anyone there that isn't a "yes man? It always needs a patch, online is still so far behind, the game play is so mechanical, the sound is terrible, the should just get all the people that make mods involved in the next version as they are so out of touch, it still looks like a ps2 game as well!

At least they have licensed boots and balls!?!?!?!

http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/05/22/fifa-14s-next-gen-ignite-engine-wont-be-coming-to-pc/
As part of last night’s Xbox One reveal, EA introduced Ignite, the shiny new engine that’ll power their next-gen sporting titles – including the upcoming FIFA 14. EA say Ignite will allow them to deliver better physics, AI and animation to the pitch. And after year upon year of minor iterations, a dramatic overhaul to the underlying EA Sports tech sounds rather exciting. Which makes it all the more annoying that the engine won’t be coming to PC.

The news came from FIFA’s Community Manager Rob Hodson:  but not surprising, PES it is for PC

Are there any mods for FIFA 13 that gets rid of the logo, UI etc? Quite fancy playing it on the TV but don't want screen burn in.

I'll be switching to playing Fifa on the new consoles, Ultimate Team is full of cheaters and high prices on PC anyway.

Don't play UT much anyway, more disappointed they won't take advantage of top spec rigs in the same way a Battlefield will do... all that lost potential ah well hopefully PES takes advantage of this error.

Fifa 13 problem

Hi,

Recently got this for pc (on the cheap)

I have made a load of changes to players in the edit mode however when I go to play a friendly or a league (just by myself) it reverts to all the default players.

How can I stop it from reverting to the default unedited players?

Why would fifa 13 stop working all of a sudden,i have redownloaded it to from origin,
its just stuck on the fifa 13 intro screen,i really don't know whats happened, nothing has changed pc hardware wise..

alt tab out and back in.

also put a fps limiter on the game (vsync off, no limit on fps in the fifa 13 settings, and cap your fps trough afterburner or something similar to 120)
