FIFA 14

I like Gustavo. He's a good CDM. Unfortunately I like my CDMs to be able to shoot as my build up is generally slow so medium attacking CDMs come into space at the edge of the box. Gustavo definitely can't shoot :D.

Sonny, have you found 4231 to be your best formation?
I have most the player in your teams, so I could give them a try :-)

It's the best defensively I have found, offensively not so much.

I haven't really found there to be any formation which is great both offensively and defensively at the same time in FIFA 14, the game mechanics are all over the place and the engine ruins a lot of formations.

3 defenders is too exposed, 5 defenders leaves your midfield or attacking options lacking and overrun, so it has to be 4 at the back.

The problem I have is full backs can go crazy at times and only medium attack ones tend to work for me, where I can force them to move up if I see tons of space and switch play manually.

Then you ideally want 2 cdm's 1 isn't enough IMO as one decent pass can cut him out and then the opponent can do a little dash then hit a long ranger into the net, 2 CDM's usually stops this 9 times out of 10.

so 4-2 with 2 medium attack full backs IMO work best so that gives you:

4222, 4231 (either version) and 442 (2)

I tried all of them and IMO 4231 suited me the best, you may find 4222 or 442 (2) more to your liking though.

My motto is not allowing the opposing team to score easily and being clinical in front of goal and creating chances in the danger zone. So my team and formation is focused on tightening up the back more so than being brilliant attacking wise, I therefore have to rely on game skill to score than overpowering their defence.

I have found that 433 due to the 3 forwards really overpowers the defence pulling them apart making it really easy to score but I cannot get on with it personally. I tried it with Brazil and I played a lot better with 4231.

4231-2 trumps all 3 of those for me, you still get the central play, and although the wide men are not as forward as the CAMs in 4231, they add a lot more width to the team and it works a lot better than vanilla 4231 imo.

This just works so well:

Sadly its just a tad generic :(

Nice squad i have the same plan to get yaya in cdm I already have ramiers one h/h and one m\h works great in that formation.

I'm still loving the false 9 formation with SIF Fabregas - though I've not played that much this month!

Saying that I just listed Yaya this morning :p he'll keep dropping like crazy and Matic/Essien are just as good.

Just as good matci/essien? was he not beast then?Yaya will have to wait as I blew my money on serie a team and falcao, does anyone find that benatia and chiellini Sketchy?

Podolski at LM?

He's got poor dribbling, passing and pace stats which is the complete opposite of Navas on the other side.

I've never seen anyone mention him as being any good either, why him over Willian, Schurrle, Jarvis, Young, Jarvis, etc?

Why Podolski? 2 absolutely HONEST reasons:

1: I Loved him last year, spent 6 months this year avoiding himdue to his position, new workrates etc...

2: I changed the team from 4231 to 4231-2, had Navas sitting from my free none tradable packs, and no left siders aside form Lukas, got him in a pack near the start,. never sold him, something just works with this team how it is, lost maybe 2 out of 10 with that team and Podolski does work very well there, I can understand why ANYONE would question it, but it just works!

he had like 87 pace iirc last year and was extremely OP and a CF/ST.

his shooting stats look great but honestly it's a very weird choice with their being so many better options even cheap ones, he looks like a BPL David Villa though so more suited to LW/LF than LM

Yep, I agree, he is nice & solid which helps on slow buildup play and with a wing swap and some 1-2s he can get into good goalscoring positions etc..

I'm sure a few others would be just as good, but if it aint broke..

I just think cutting in sucks. Navas / Lucas are much more effective than Robben / Hulk etc.

I never know the skill but there's two that's impossible to defend cutting in, Robben's shot is ridiculous so once you are cut in it's a goal. Reus is ok at it but not half as effective.
