Ah yeah, sacking off the FA Cup to get schooled by the South Americans was not our finest hour.

tbf I always thought that the FA wanted Utd to go in 99/2000, so it wasnt just upto the club (from what I remember)
I have to admit to being quite amused at Chelsea losing this morning, its made my day
There was an article on the BBC about that recently. Basically it meant Man United got a nice ~10 day Winter rest in a sunny climate away from the pace of Premiership football, and then went on to win the league by 18 points. So it wasn't all bad.

It completely slipped my mind that we had two international tournaments in 1999/00, and we won the first (in the old Intercontinental Cup) against a Palmeiras team including Faustinho Asprilla in November 99. We then went off in January to the new FIFA Club World Cup where Vasco de Gama tore us a new one and we got knocked out in the group stage. Their third goal was a great piece of skill, I remember trying to pull this off in the playground for weeks after.
The break may have helped but Leeds and Arsenal were both pretty poor that year while we had one of our best ever sides. Neither took advantage of us being away and we ran away with it when we got back.
Someone needs to put Torres down, it really is painful to watch him.
