ISS Pro, which was 97 iirc.

ISS Pro 98 was when it started to get really good.

ISS has been around longer than that, probably even pre dates FIFA (Since the first FIFA was 94).

Indeed, the original ISS series peaked with the truly awesome ISS games on the N64. Kind of shows how awesome ISS Pro 98 was to make me move away from it.

That was the snes game. Always played as Italy as they had the guy with Baggio ponytail.

For me it really depends on what any of your friends play. I went through a phase of buying both every year, I had friends that played both and it meant that I got a bit of a change of style. This year though I prefer playing PES, I have this on the PS3 and FIFA on the PC, I just find that it is more fun, particularly for 2 player(not online), though I don't have as much of a problem with it online as some have.

I did unfortunately

I did get one soccer game on the SNES however, can't remember if it was ISS or not though... don't think it was Super Soccer though.

Before the Deluxe version on SNES, there was normal ISS (released in 94) not many people remember because they were too stuck up with Fifa 94/95.
Other great footie game on the SNES was Capcom's wonderful Soccer Shoot Out.

to answer Op's Q, buy PES 2008 on PS2 else go for Fifa 08.

Why hasn't the op tried the demos for the ps3 to see if they actually like either ????

I agree that next-gen fifa overall is better, but that's not saying much as both games have problems...

Unless the op can get either cheap, like for a tenner, I would wait the three or four months until this years versions are out.

Old school PES player here. However, PES2008 makes me cry. Have honestly never played FIFA, looks like i'll have to give it a go.

I used to love ISS 2 on the xbox 1, despite the way the last defender was practically invincible. Set pieces were brilliant in that game, better than any football game since imo.
