FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP E [Switzerland, Ecuador, France, Honduras - 15/20/25 June] **spoilers**

Switzerland will complain about the ball being moved, referee should have enforced that there's no point in marking the pitch otherwise.

Moved back, changed the angle. It was only a foot, but still, it stands, the purpose of the spray is to prevent even that kind of change.
Actually that's a good point, the purpose of the spray is to ensure that the wall isn't closer than 10y, if the player then moves the ball back 0.5y would the ref get arsey if the wall stepped forward?

Well taken, but where was the marking?

Djourou is playing ;)

EDIT:- had to look it up as couldn't remember if he was still an Arsenal player, he's not WOO. After a loan at Hamburg we sold him in April, on the 2nd... on the 1st and I wouldn't have believed it.

Hamburg finish 7th, get Djourou in for a seasons loan... and drop to the bottom managing to survive only by winning the relegation play off game, probably not entirely Djourou's fault but 7th to joint 17th(I presume going into the relegation play off) after signing a new CB is funny anyway :p

Next they'll be having those things the snooker refs have to cleantthe ball :)

A job for Rory Delap after he retires... although it's pretty much all he does now anyway.

The ref has sprayed in front of the wall in other games and by the time the free kick taker has connected with the ball they've all come forward a yard and the ref has done nothing. Seems like a token gesture more than a meaningful method of enforcing rules.

Saves a bit of time, you quite often get a ref standing by a wall screaming at them with his arm out behind them saying effectively get back there, and they move backwards at a rate of about 1mm/s. Then move forward. Ultimately putting a line down is quick and easy and saves probalby 30 seconds of players bellyaching and being idiots. They might move forward a bit, but they do after the ref takes that 30 seconds without the line there. So at worst it saves a bit of time. Quite a few freekicks have been taken without the players moving forwards much though.

Not the first time it's been used, just can't remember when it was used, confed cup or something?
